So, I've been trying to find a few GS's to look at locally. For the past week or so I've been going to craigslist and searching "GS500F" and I haven't been getting any results. Then, today by accident, I search "GS 500" with a space between, and what do you know, quite a few results pop up.

Just thought I would share the lameness of Craigslists search function.

So many overpriced bikes around me. They want way more than blue book in excellent condition.

i always do a search a few different ways. but it makes sense they would put a space, gsxr1000 is normally gsxr 1000 etc etc.

P.S: I never do a search with the f, gs 500 is enough.

Asking price is one thing...actual selling price is another....most buyers and most sellers expect some haggling.......sellers starts high.....buyer starts low...meet somewhere in the middle....if bikes are over priced, nobody should  buy.........free market system.....

GS500 is usually without space between  GS and 500...the way Suzuki does it.  Craigslist lets seller list incorrectly..sellers mistake....they don't get many buyers........

GS500 is rare bike on my local Craigslist..........millions of hondas and harleys....GS500 is common bike worldwide.........not so popular in USA where men are insecure and feel that they need 1200 CC to make up for their deficiencies.

Not entirely true, most new riders start off on 250's. After all they are liquid cooled and just have that sporty look. GS 500's don't unless its a fairing, and it still does not look "sporty" with that long seat (which i personally hate myself). It might be a ego thing, but they only ones downing bikes under 600cc is the posers who cant correctly ride the're 1000's. I bought my 500 for commuting, and because it had fairing. I personally hate naked bikes, but that's just a personal opinion.

If I encounter one of those 1000cc posers talking crap about my 500(which most around here know i ride 1100s etc, but still).. I'm just right to the point honest "my dingy is big enough that i don't have to composite with a 1000cc under it". works every time. none the less this is why most new riders get hurt, they want to look cool with those 600-1000cc riders.. A 250 is a learning bike to me, but its like a scouter which is why i never owned one(and people out grow to fast). I personally recommend the 500 to every one who ask me what a good starter bike is. Nothing is better then a gs 500 to learn on, good bike that you wont out grow to fast.

I'm just pointing out that there are few GS500 offered for sale in my local Craigslist...I am not sure why....but it is a relatively uncommon bike around here.....yet very popular worldwide........

As to why somebody would want one bike over another...well it all depends....that is one of the beauties of this sport/hobby..........there are so many different bikes out there....you can find something to suit your needs and desires........

I started on a 125 cc scooter....then 250 cruiser.....loved them both.....when I saw a leftover gs500 for cheap price I couldn't pass it up........to me the best value for the dollar..........

My #1 consideration was for cheap transportation........GS500 gets great mileage, and mine was low initial cost...win/win......

The large 1200 cc type bikes, which get worse mileage than my car, are of no interest to me.

The fact that the GS500 ended up being way fun to ride is just an added bonus to me.......

To get back on topic....

Search for:

gs500e|gs500F|gs500

gs 500

suzuki gs

suzuki 500

Search title only. usually with pictures.  BOTH dealer and private sellers.

It is not that the search is lame, it is how people list things. If it did what you want, it could be worse. ebay changed how they peocess a search. No longer will this work:
gs500
as it gives things with GS and things with 500.
Now I gave to go
"gs500"
with the quotes so it won't split the characters from the numbers.

jestercinti

1 word query yields the most results:  Suzuki

I get to see GSXR-500s, GS500Fs, GS500es, GS500s, GS-500, GS 500, (<-- you get the idea).

You can weed through the drama and idiocy, and have the best luck...at least on Cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy

Do not be deterred by asking price!   My bike was on Craigslist for 1800, I had him meet me somewhere looked it over and offered 800. Now I own it :D
'92 GS500E
'89 US factory clip ons
RELOAD fork brace
Bridgestone S20R evo tires 110/70 17 140/70 17
.85 sonic springs & Bel ray fork oil
K&N Lunchbox & rejetted carbs
Vance and Hines full exhaust
Suzuki GSXR600 750 TL 1000 - REAR FOOT PEGS as found on gstwinswiki
R6 rear shock

jestercinti

I price things somewhat high as a seller.  I know my rock-bottom price, and negotiate to that.

In the end, everyone is happy.  Typically 10% or so wiggle room.  $5500 becomes $5000.  You get the idea.
