Hi

Does anybody know if the newer seats off the gs will fit a 98 model?

You have to replace gas tank with new gas tank. And remove the rear tail plastics. Pm mustang gt, he recently did it. In order to mount the new tail plastics you need to fab up some new mounts. Other than that it's pretty straight forward from what i understand.

No, it is not a direct fit swap. A lot of work is involved as per jacob92icu posted.

I recall you can put a new seat on an old bike. It looks a bit funky and odd, but can be done. I think I've done it a few times to see how things fit. I can check again tonight and take a picture.
I know an old seat is a but tight at the tank when put on a new bike.
Oh, so I guess that means they do go on, but as for how well they fit.......

The "not a direct swap" is more in putting a new tank on the 89-00 frame. It has to do with the mount at the tank for the front of the rear plastics.

A '01+ seat will not fit with the 89-00 tank. And if even if you can finagle it into place it's not going to fit anywhere near right! Also the subframe on the back of the older bikes is different than that of the newer style also, the rear of the seat sits a couple inches above the supports.

A newer style tank and seat go on no problem at all. Older seat will work with newer tank, but then you have to make a mounting point for the old style side plastics. New style plastics require some work I don't know about to make work.
