Bad Bearing (formerly Timing Chain Gremlins)

Looks like the high pitched whirring noise was not the timing chain, but a bearing starting to spall.  I found flakes of hard metal in the drain pan and will have to tear into the tranny and see which one it is.  This is a motor with 10k original miles.  WTF?  Are Japanese bearings OK or should I replace them all with FAGs or Timken?  I'll have to check the crank and counterbalance shell bearings for embedded bits as well.

If you find an aftermarket bearing, let the rest of us know.

It can be a little hard to see the rod bearings via the oil pain. You might also try pulling the head and cylinders, or removing the side covers to inspect the balancershaft bearings.

I'm talking about the ball bearings in the tranny.  Those are pretty generic.  The shell bearings will have to come from Suzuki.  I have a really loose drive sprocket and worn splines on the drive shaft and think that the bike may have been abused, possibly enough to mess up one of the drive shaft bearings.

I have all the lower end parts from a motor that lost a counter balance bearing. Crank & stuff all good. Just bad counter balancer.
Been trying to get rid of it since I have a spare engine.

That's what I get for not paying attention. :)

Do you have a gearbox drive shaft with pristine sprocket splines?
