Question guys: Is there any other reason to have the pin holes in the handlebars or are they simply to keep the controls from drifting? I have an aftermarket handlebar that has no holes in it. It hasn't seemed to affect anything up to this point.

Thanks.

That's what it is for.
If the controls work loose, you don't want them spinning around on you - especially the throttle.

Makes sense, adidasguy. Guess I'll get out the drill. Thanks.

if you want to be lazy put duct tape on the bars where the stuff mounts then use red loctite on the screws and torque them down nice and tight.

:nono: never use red locktite. You will never get it off. Use blue or green.

Red: Rock hard for permanent stuff. Never use it on a bike.
Blue: the normal stuff to use. Gets gooey but you can still remove something if you have to.
Green: Like blue, but it penetrates threads in things already assembled.

Use blue everywhere. Use green for things already assembled where you forgot to use blue. Green CAN be used in place of blue, but it is very runny where blue is thicker so it won't drip off of stuff.

Yeah, I bought new replacement Vortex 7/8 bars for my 89 top plate and had to notch them to fit in the plate and drill them for the controls. Not hard to do. Measure twice, drill/cut once

Thanks, men. I'll go with drilling the holes.

I did not drill holes. I ground the plastic pin off. None of my street legal supermotos or dirt bikes used holes in the bars and I'm confident in my ability to securely tighten screws and glue my grips.
