Sydney Servicing

Hi Guys

I've got a 2013 GS500F with 850km on it and so it needs the first 1,000km service.

Just wondering where people in Sydney would recommend? Especially on the North Shore?

I've spoken to Sydney Motorcycle's Lane Cove store and they want $345 because it's an extra $120 for a valve clearance service?! Is that right?

I'm tempted to just get it done at Lloyd Penn but I want to make sure I keep my warranty in tact, especially if it's only going to save me $100 and Lane Cove will give me a loan bike for free for the day.

Thoughts?

That price sounds about right.

Your warranty will remain intact while servicing is done by any qualified mechanic. Best if they use factory oil filters as well.

The first service should only take a couple of hours all up.

I've never had a service done at SCM but I bought my GS at Procycles in Hornsby. SCM doesn't have a great rep for servicing, especially the Kogarah store.

At first service and then at the 12,000, 24,000 etc services the valve clearances should be checked and adjusted if required. Adjustment is by changing shims, not a simple spanner adjustment.

Bikes tend to be a long way behind cars in this regard. I don't think I've ever needed to adjust valve clearances on any car I've owned that was made after 1980.
