Properly cleaning inside right hand cover.

Hey guys,

First off love this site and you are all very helpful.

I am getting ready to close up my bike (thanks to all of your help) but I have had the cover off for a while in a garage that isn't the cleanest.

anyways over time dirt and things have stuck to all the parts just from sitting open in the garage. I want to clean everything off, from the clutch plates to just the surface of the crank case, everything that is exposed when that cover is off.

what is the best way to do this, I have heard you should wash clutch plates in kerosene.. what about everything else, is kerosene the way to go or just wipe everything off with water and thoroughly dry it?

I'd think kerosene would be best from what I've read here, but wait for the pros to chime in. Generally I wouldn't use water on anything that oil touches or on bare metal but that's my opinion.

Yeah the more I look into it it seems kerosene is a preferred and water would be a bad idea. A second opinion is always appreciated. Thank you

Brake cleaner also works excellent for cleaning and decreasing without leaving a film. It's the preferred cleaner among myself and all the other heavy duty mechanics I work with.

Be careful around any rubber parts though, it may harden them or make them swell.
