Engine is locked up

Well I got a gs500E from a neighbor the bike is in good shape and I like it so I guess I am asking is it cheaper to rebuild the motor or just replace it and if I replace the motor where should I look to get one. Thanks in advance

Replace.  Post in the for sale/wanted that you need a motor.  Be sure to say EXACTLY what it is for year, make, model, etc.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Will do and THANKS!!! Hell I was thinking  to buy a 400CC harbor freight motor and jam it in it and track the bugger but I'd have to do a CV setup  :D But thanks I will post up ASAP with all the info I have the title in my work truck. I think its an 89 but I wanna be sure.

If the original owner was going to cram a 400cc Harbor Freight motor in it....I am now thinking it might just have a dead battery  :dunno_black:

Nah I am just kidden the thing is locked up solid though. I will rip it apart through the week regardless of what I plan on doing just to make sure it isn't something stupid like a stuck valve cause its been sitiing for  a long time.

As said, cheaper to replace. Ive replaced 2 in bikes I bought with locked up engines

I am not doubting you but the cheapest motor I found and I am no pro at looking is 699 on ebay=freight so I think I'll tear it down and see if it isn't something stupid from sitting. I am a forklift mechanic and have wrenched on all my bikes since I was a kid. I like the way this bike looks so I am gonna try to keep it.

Soon as you get it going and get it to the twisties I still think you'll be parking that big Buell for a while.  Much fun even for big bike veterans like yourself.   :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Both motors I bought that were locked had cracked pistons (from hitting the cylinder sleeve), cracked cylinder sleeves (from piston impact), broken rods (again from impact) and bad bearings which meant also a crank replacement. Calculate that plus oil, gaskets, misc parts, labor, ect. It wasnt worth trying to rebuild. Ive also done mechanical work all my life and let me tell you, it wasnt worth trying to rebuild.
