Hello people. I just bought an '07 500F with 1,200 miles and am doing a bobber project. I'm a first time bike owner but I'm an auto mechanic and get along with anything that has an engine and wheels. It has been a lot easier to tear down than I had imagined. I have read a lot of information on this site though so going at it was a hell of a lot easier. Thanks for that, everyone. I've taken a lot of pictures to keep track of the progress, and it is night and day. The photos of the project are here http://s1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii585/jacobcrunk/ my facebook has descriptions, I just didnt feel like entering everything again on photobucket. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151000841495280.471629.703355279&type=3

Oh, and does anybody know where to find a factory service manual?

Oh, Oh, nice videos B'moreGS. I felt like I had taken the bike apart before I even took the seat off.

IIRC isohunt has a torrent with the factory service manual.

Thanks. I tried finding it on Isohunt with no luck. So, I did a search on google for "gs500f factory service manual torrent" and after a few minutes of being redirected, found it on Demonoid with the owners manual too.

Now that I have that it's time for wiring and cables to be pulled.

Spent yesterday straightening the front wheel by loosening the lower triple and slowly ramming it into a cinder-block wall. I could not believe how well it worked. It went from off a few 3 degrees to perfect in the matter of 30 seconds. After that I worked on the seat pan position and frame. I was able to use the rear peg mounts/frame for the structure of the seat frame too. If I'm careful on my cuts I shouldn't have to buy any metal to finish the frame. Here's hopin'.

Then came the suck. I'm relocating the ignition switch down and inside the frame on the left side, so I went after removing that... Damn, bolts with no heads, break out the drill. I grabbed a small punch and made some pilot divots in the exposed ends of the bolt heads, then worked progressively up in bit size until the unit broke free of the tree. This took a lot of patience and time since I didn't want to jack up the housing. Finally got it all apart though and set it aside for mount fabrication.

Sorry, I forgot my phone's memory card in the computer so no pic updates right now. Still a ways to go, but getting much closer. Can't effin wait.

Long overdue for an update but things have gone well. She's still not close to finished but this is how it sits right now. I'll post a video of it running later. http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/jacobcrunk/library/?sort=2&page=1

If you use the img thing with Mona Lisa's picture right under the Bold and Italics action then you can just put your pictures straight into your threads, no more links :) Looks good though, what are you planning on going for?
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Thanks for the tip. Not sure exactly what it'll be classified as but I guess a combination of street-fighter and rat. Most of the major mods are finished except for the fiberglass housing for the tail, progressive springs, powder-coat frame, katana rear wheel and re-wiring. When I do the rear wheel and springs I'll tear it all down again and powder-coat.
