Mud guards with '02+ Front Fenders

I need a front fender for my '91 GS. Found some on Ebay but for years 2002+ without holes for the mud guard. I would like to use the mud guard. Is it possible to drill holes in the newer style fenders to attach the mud guard?

All fenders are compatible. Fender is plastic. Got a drill? You're in business. Drill 2 holes and bolt the mud guard on (in Europe they are "fender extenders")
