So, Anon's upper NJ thread  and AlexT's generosity got me thinking again about some sort of NYC thread since there seems to be a relative few of us. Then I figured why not pull the nearby folks into it.

Therefore, I hereby declare the NYC area thread. If you will, please, indicate your applicable geography in the poll above and utilize this thread as an easier way to locate other area members, as a jumpoff point for meetups, to organize sports brawlz, etc.

I'm ten minutes from nyc, i couldn't imagine driving the bike through manhattan though  :icon_eek: i drive through the city regularly though by car.

do you find it a little crazy that cost of used bikes in our area compared to everywhere else is ridiculously high?

I'm no more interested in navigating 95 or 78 during rush than Manhattan...or much of the rest of NYC for matter. That goes quadruple for Friday night rush.

CL & eBay are usually inflated in our area. Hipsters, yuppies and squids paying too much for old bikes doesn't help. Pokey was a for sale sign find from the East Village. The owner wanted $1k. He took $650.

Have no interest in living in your area but sure love to come up and visit several times each year.  I usually stay in Brooklyn but make it over to Central Park or some of the other attractions each time.   I'm always on 4 wheels.  Watching the guys/gals ride  anywhere in the NYC area makes we shudder.  Don't understand how anybody affords to live in that area.

AlexT

Everything is overpriced here, from motorcycles to apartments... :dunno_black:

The pizza, however, is surprisingly affordable.

You have been living there to long:  Last month....4 of us went out for pizza in Brooklyn....6 beers and a large pizza $110.00 plus tip.  Pizza was good but not that good.  Here in NC that bill would have been $40 to $50.

You didn't look at your receipt.

I said pizza, not alcohol...particularly not Brooklyn beer. Everything in Brooklyn is an excuse to sell exorbitantly priced beer. The key is to find establishments that don't seem to be active attempts to garner a time slot on the Food Network.

To say nothing of the practice of finding pizza in NC seeming a bit like the practice of finding barbecue in NYC...sure you can, but why?

1 dollar pizzas are EVERYWHERE

I'm actually a huge fan of the $7.20 chicken/falafel/HALAL GUYS food cart. You get more food than you know what to do with!

cWj

I like Rafiqi's & Xpress Power Lunch. It's not more than you can eat but plenty for $5.

I don't know if they exist in Jersey, but the fruit shake carts also make Jamba Juice blissfully unnecessary.
