Don't buy a 500, they said.
Get something more powerful, they said.
It's not fast enough, they said.

Well, two tickets in one week says it's fast enough for me  >:(

LOL yup. mail tickets. friend of mine got mailed a ticket. he sent back a picture of a hundred dollar bill, they sent back a picture of handcuffs. but our photo tickets are mailed out of scottsdale az.  i rode my goped in oak ridge tn. and triggered a red light camera. would have loved to see cops face, when he was wondering , hmmm how do i deal with this one?!?!?!?!?!

Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

I wouldn't pay those...the fact that they aren't printed in English is the first red flag. The second is that they mailed the tickets....multiple requests to pay = fraud in my book.

Yes, I know OP isn't from the US...but anything official should still be printed in English no matter where you are.  :D
It seems it has become necessary to qualify my posts:
I am/am not trying to start an argument. This post is/is not intended to be a personal attack. I am/am not merely attempting to present a different viewpoint.

So by that logic anyone in France or Germany or Italy or Sweden, shouldn't pay their fines cause if they get them they should be printed in English even though to them it would be considered a second language?

I'm surprised that you guys don't get your speeding tickets in the mail, actually...
How does that work? A cop shows up on your doorstep every time you get a fine?

Maybe it's because Flanders is like a forest of Gatso-speedcameras?
For instance: single trip to my parents (only 9k): 4 cameras.
And that's not counting mobile patrols (in civilian cars) that can be be anywhere.

By the way: English isn't the second language in Belgium (Dutch, French and German), nor in France, Sweden, Germany or Italy for that matter.
Just consider yourself lucky that you live in a country that happens to have a fairly universal language, but never take it for granted that other people pay you the courtesy of speaking to you in English.
That attitude will get you in trouble fast in France or Italy: people over there will very quickly 'forget' every English word they know once you get cocky  ;)

most of the time, speeding tickets are delivered in person. after being apprehended of course ;).

Didn't know that...  :thumb:
I actually prefer mail tickets then.

Last week was kinda funny:
During one ride I noticed the ominous flash from the speed camera, while driving through town 'A'.
Come home, start complaining to my wife about the cameras.

One week later: ticket arrives, wife opens it: angry face.
I'm like 'Why are you angry? I already told you, that's from last week in A'

Then she shows me the ticket, and the location where I was busted: town 'B'  :icon_eek:

And, sure enough, two days later: another ticket  :embarrassed:

Yeah if we get done by a camera for speeding or red light it gets delivered by mail. I think even registered mail maybe dunno, hang on a sec lemme get done wood to touch. I havnt recieved a ticket by mail yet.

In most states of Australia ... They have 6 weeks to send you the ticket.... If it gets sent after 6 weeks you can refuse to pay the fine.... You still get the points though... Unless of course you have 'a number of friends that borrow the bike and "geez I can't remember 6 weeks ago mate" .. '

They very very rarely miss the 6 week window.... But it has happened ... And been successfully unpaid...

Think it's a loophole of what happens if you move house and update the details on your licence etc but they miss it somehow....

Dunno how the rule works exactly... But it has been used...

But now..... I'm not having a cheap shot at Wim ... But I still fail to understand how after this much time where speed cameras have been on our roads.... How people still get caught by them?! ... By the fixed emplacement ones anyway!! ...

Here in Aussie there HAVE to be 3 quite large signs spaced out a kilometre or so BEFORE the camera!!! ... Other drivers are usually braking a little or slowing.... And people don't notice any of this?...

Back in my younger days then I had a glorious V8 fuel injected ute/pickup ... And a speed camera first got put into our local area..... I got clipped 3 times in a week!!  (9 of 12 points gone and $800 or so in fines ) ... New tech and young dumb driver eh! ... But I've not been busted since then.... One or 2 red light cameras while in heavy load trucks.. And a couple time by a 'nice constable' with a handheld laser speed thing.... But never again by a fixed camera... Even in unfamiliar or interstate areas ... You just can't miss the signs...

But that is AUssieland... What's the 'conditions/rules' like in Europe and USA? ... For interests sake!  :thumb:

They have been introducing ANPR / mobile speed camera vans and new speed cameras here that use the infrared flash units - no visible flash to warn you at all.

The new cameras are pretty tricked out - use HD video and can spot fast cars between the rest of the flock. Have a new one recently installed on the run to work which does all 7 lanes (except for the fast lane which has an Armco barrier which means the angle is such it can't get your plate).

Good thing on a bike it is 50/50 if they can get your plate - so I get to ride up the hill on the way home with impunity  :thumb:

No offence taken, Cods  ;)

Just to prove that I'm not an utter idiot: the first ticket was 'shot' by a mobile patrol.
They just have standard hatchbacks and sedans.  They usually just park at the front of a line of cars...

The second one was a fixed camera, but I just misjudged the speed. Not my speed (70k on my clock), but the speed limit...  Turns out I had just entered a 50-zone, but I didn't notice.
When I described the place to a few of my friends and asked them about the speed limit there, 9 out of 10 said they thought it was 70 too...

FYI speed cameras in Belgium don't have to have signs to warn oncoming traffic.
So why do we still get caught?
Well, these cameras only work every now and then.  You can zoom past them, and most of the time they won't even catch you.  But sometimes they do, and then you're caught off guard...

I can't point out enough how many there are around here.

Not for safety's sake either. This is where they make their money is the sole reason.
