Installed new handlebars, can't keep left switch pod from spinning.

In the ongoing saga of the $500 GS, I discovered last week that the handlebars were slightly bent, and ordered a set of chrome drag bars to replace them. Clearance is tight with the banjo bolt from the brake master, but it all fits. Barely.

I drilled the hole on the right-hand side so that the starter/kill switch/throttle pod would sit on the bars, however the left-side pod (choke, horn, turn signals) doesn't seem to have any sort of built-in mechanism to keep it steady. I tighened it down on the handlebars but it spins every time I move the choke lever. Is there something I'm missing? Is the plastic nub broken off?

Can you wrap the bar with electrical tape underneath the switch housing? Maybe not the best fix, but it should work.....

I could do this, but is it normal for this switch pod to not be anchored? Or is the nub broken off?

it should have a plastic nub that sits in a location hole.  you could try screwing in a self tapping screw to create a nub then cut of the head.

I guess that's my answer then-- there was a nub, but it was sheared or broken off somehow. I'll try the thing with the self-tapping screw.

Just take a piece of duct tape and wrap it around the bar twice, then tighten the controls down on top of it. Rode my old '93 for 7 months using that trick, except on the throttle side, solved the issue completely

Tape around the bars works. The controls should be gripping the bar. The nib is there so they are in the right place and won't move if the screws are loose.

If putting in a screw to make a nib, use a small screw with the head the same size as the hole. A small screw and drill a small pilot hole in the plastic first or it will split and break. Small screw = don't have to cut off the head.
