I'd say if everything is there and the engine isn't seized, go for it! Hopefully has a title...if not, I say pass.

Maybe offer $500. Might expect the tank to be rusty.

Check the condition of the brake lines and fuel lines for visible cracks or cracks when you bend it. Should give you an idea of the condition of anything else (carburetor seals for instance).

Yeah I may cruise over and take a look this week. I will call the guy tomorrow and see if he has a title, etc

The early GS's are well known for electrical problems. Stator, reg / rectifier, poor connections, etc would all need some tlc. Take it from me: that is a nice bike but every bit of rubber will need replaced (carb mounts, airbox boots, carb orings, etc) if they haven't been recently. Buy it for $700, but plan on putting another $1000 into it to get it safe enough for hard riding.

Might want to mention: I think that model has the 16" front wheel. Tire selection is limited, but an early GSXR front end should bolt up and give you the option of 17" or 18" tires.

Edit: do a Google search for "all Suzuki motorcycles". Plenty of general info on that site (my phone won't let me copy and paste the link).

Yeah thats a deal killer for me then. I dont want to dump that much money into it. I like the look and imagine it would make a mean looking custom bike.

Thanks for the info Big Rich, I really really appreciate it.

Don't NOT check it out - it could have had all the maintenance done recently, but neglected cosmetically.

Old bikes are a labor of love. You'll always put more money into them than what they are worth. For example, my GS450 cost me north of $1400 to get it where it is, and I could have bought a decent beater bike for that. But I know it inside and out, all the maintenance is done, I'll keep it for YEARS, and I feel confident in saying I could ride it coast to coast.

This bike DOES have potential. go for it. usually can find the parts cheap. im pretty sure theres a gs500 site similar to this one dedicated to her siblings.
