So cam chain does need changing, I'm sending it to the shop, wouldn't mind attempting it myself

Any body else done this job before, I mean splitting the chain rather than taking the full engine apart

i just went through something like this. I split the stock chain by removing one pin. the chain will come apart. Find an appropriate size pin for the link and peen the end to hold in place . Others have suggested using an "E" ring or circlip. or even a small bolt and nut. Opening the case just seems like a lot of work.
