Hi,

I'm looking a aftermarket fork springs. I changed my bike's handlebar to a more aggressive style and now the springs are so soft that it annoys me to even ride it.

Let me know if anyone are selling some stiffer springs, such as progressive or sonic brands.

I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

You might be lucky and find someone getting rid of some... But they aren't that expensive new... My sonics were shipped from US to Aussie for just over $100 ... And got to choose just which ones I wanted...

Follow Cods link eh!  :thumb:

Thanks guys.

How do I decide on which spring rate to choose?

That's Sonic's spring rate calculator. It should give you a good idea of what you want. For a baseline, I weigh about 160 and have .85 in mine. They work out very well for me. Just be sure to read up on suspension tuning so you can cut the preload spacers properly.

Here's a good resource. Yeah, it's a Yami forum, but it's got some really good information.

Geared up I weigh about 310 ish ..  Got .95 sonic ... Probably should have gone 1.0 ... But the 95 still handles it all good ... Comes close to bottom on real heavy braking... Still a huge benefit though!

Nakedguy

I've got some .85 sonics still in the box... I snagged some works stuff off CL and never put them on $70 + shipping... Pm me if you want them

Can I just clear this up? Did later models have a full length spring (as opposed to a short spring with a long spacer like E model?)

Beam me up Scottie....

My '06 still needed a spacer ... Sonics are the right length for the type of bike you order for I think?

The spacer is to preload far as I know!?

Nope. Mine had short stubby springs and gigantic spacers just like the E's. I have no clue how those springs actually held my weight lol.

Yep. The spacers are used to control the preload on the spring, much like that collar on the rear shock.

Well, of all the bikes I've worked on (dozens) sometimes you'll find a short spacer for preload, maybe 20mm or so, -you can adjust the preload by changing the length of the spacer. The manual says the GS500 spring length should be 254mm (10") - That's really short!  Surely the front end will be much better controlled with a full length spring without a long spacer. The springs as found in my bike are are twice as long as 'standard' (they're 500mm long) and take up all the space inside without the need for a long spacer.

The .95 sonics I bought and had installed .. Were roughly 350-400mm long ... I think... Pretty sure!
