Before I pull the trigger on a new signal generator for my gs500 I wanted to test it first. I tried my multimeter on the 2000 setting but the only reading I got was 1. I set it to 20K and got 2.03 on one side and 2.08 on the other. Does this sound like a shot generator?

A little background: only sparks on the right cylinder, new coil, ignitor, and plug didn't fix the problem.

What model year is your bike?  I haven't kept up on the changes in post-2002 models, so I'm not sure this information will apply, but take a look at
and continue to the bottom of the page.

ABSTRACT:  Depending on where you're measuring the resistance, you might have a broken wire or a bad connector/connection "higher up".

It's interesting that you're getting resistance readings around 2,000 ohms.  Again, that might be normal if you have a later-model GS; I couldn't say for sure.

I was getting my readings with the first step of the linked test with the three wires.
