I got the 12 thread heli sitting here.
The guy has a parts scooter - that is likely to have a good one, but I am not swapping the head. Its too much more than I can take up now.
Heli going in today I hope.
Cool.

Other fuel inlet looking thing may be for an oil injection?

Post up a photo of this beast so we can picture the Buddha riding his scoots around :whisper: :icon_lol:

The carb has a T feed off the vacuum from the manifold. This scootie did not have it ... ergo, it did not run.

Frrrk. The spark plug - I managed to get a longer plug in ... cos the helicoil was too deep.
The bloody plug got clocked by the piston.
I dont have threads catching on the 1/2" reach plug.
The 3/4" reach plug (cr7es - same as the GSXR 750 96-99) is too long.

WTF ... the 1/2" plug is 1/4" or so in the hole - its sparking 1/4" away from where it can light up the fuel well ... no wonder these run like garbage.

Cool.

OK new plug is in, 3 crush washers and its not getting hit by the piston, and I have spark. However it wont start ... Why the hell wont it start ... gas, check, compression (I think) spark - yes ... still nothing.

Scooters can be mongrels.. have had a few when I started my uni studies. FA-50 and Letts II 50cc.

Letts II had a a vacum petcock - never had any issues, but know from experience with vacum advances on cars that sometimes you can get a tiny hole in the vacum petcock diaphram that can prevent fuel from getting to the carb. but you have fuel, so probably not that issue. floats actually floating? flooding?

Other issue I had with my 50cc was that the fuel turned to jelly and blocked the idle jet, but it still started. had to deal to it with marine grade outboard carb cleaner..

Only other issue you may have is ignition timing, but usually fairly robust if you have a CDI on the scooter. could be a timing issue developing from damage to a wiring harness.

You tried persuading with some carb start?   :thumb:

send him some start ya bastard. hell send me some too lol. i wonder if its getting fuel. once he gets the plug sorted, would be interested to see what happens next. ive got a nearly abandoned one in my carport. ( guy was sposed to collect it in mid jan. well, almost mid july now. )

Got fuel, got spark (a rather anaemic spark but spark nonetheless).

I cant get to it a few days. I'll probably start wit hdraining and replacing the fuel. It probably is a month+ old.

OK I can get to run ...
But the stupid thing is puffing compression out the spark plug hole ... WTF. Any one have that happen ...
OK its got a long reach spark plug in a hole that has been helicoiled ...
But still ...

Cool.

I haven't had that happen with a sucessful helicoil kit - maybe if the plug thread didn't quite match with the insert... Either that, or it is expecting a set amount of thread in the way and the compression is too high for the new shorter thread path to deal with.

Was the helicoil stacked? I note one comment I found online:
A word about sparkplug hole repairs: The kits for sparkplug holes are slightly different. Instead of a spiral, the insert is solid. They cannot be stacked: the correct length that corresponds to the sparkplug reach must be selected. They are available in short, normal, and extended reaches.

The true spark plug thread is a timesert, or keyinsert, its like a hollow bolt, with threads on the inside. The outside threads are also a bit roughed up, like knurled so they bite into the head. However the reason we dont install true helicoils (wire wound like a spring) is the fact the install process needs the tang and then you have to remove the tang, and that will end up inside the chamber without a proper way to get it out. When the head is outside, helicoil, no problem. That is how this was installed.

Anyway I think my issue is one of a bad perception and not neccesarily a bad helicoil job. It has a single heli, in the last 6 threads, and i have had to install a longer reach spark plug with 3 crushwashers etc etc ....

It bothered me yesterday when I felt it and it was @ that spark plug wire plug. But the scootie runs ...
That means the puffs have to be gas laced ... else how would it run.
I had dry and non gas smelly puffing.
I think that fan was shovelling a lot of air, and the spark plug cap was channeling it to the point it felt like the air was chuffing out of there. I will check again and I'll know.
Cool.

Its alive.
Needed a valve adjustment, which I was reluctant to get into, that stupid thing was under, behind and freaking lower than the belly of a pregnant ant.
Anyway, it runs alright. Swapping some parts over form the parts scootie tomorow and off it goes never to darken my driveway again ... (yea right dream on - I give idiot friend a week to blow it up again)

Cool.

Apparently its got 300 mile oil change intervals and 300 mile valve check too ...
How will it start in winter without choke - no clue. Lets see what happens.
