Late GSXR pegs on the gs500?

hey guys,

I've been using the forum as a guest for almost a year and it has helped me out on several occasions  so i thought it was about time that i started making a contribution to the GS-twins community and chime in with my own trials & tribulations.

i came across this a wee while ago and it's been in the back of my mind since - http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Pegs

so obviously modding the rear early gixxer pegs to fit is a piece of cake but I'm having issues tracking a set of pre 01 pegs (stock or aftermarket) without having to import and pay a small fortune for shipping  :icon_eek:

so I'd like to raise the question, does anyone have any experience in this matter?
or am i just going to have to bite the bullet?

Thanks,
B.

I'm having issues tracking a set of pre 01 pegs

I don't know myself, but are you sure they have to be pre 01?  I didn't see where the wiki specified.  And it looks like the parts compatibility break is 92-99 and 00-11.

This set claims to fit 2000-2011 and they are under $9 shipped
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-Rear-Footrest-Foot-Pegs-For-Suzuki-GSXR600-GSXR1000-2000-2011-GSXR-/280854724183?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item41643efe57&vxp=mtr

This set fits 93-99 and are less then $17 shipped

Both of these were in the top 3 results when I searched "2000 GSXR600 rear pegs"  and "1999 GSXR600 rear pegs"  what's your difficulty in finding a set?

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

Like the idea of the lowered footpegs & i can't see why they won't fit on my 2013 Naked.....just don't like the price though(US $125.95 shipped)

what is the main purpose of changing to these foot pegs? is it just for the looks of a smaller peg? are they better than the rubber ones that are stock on the GS? is there something I am missing here?

RodneyBR

Well, in our case the GS500F the stock pegs are massive, thus get in the way and sometime hook up in our pants. Plus, the stock pegs look awful.

I think the topic strayed from the OP's original intent. I think the question was trying to find not just the pegs, but the footrest bracket as well. Getting the GSXR brackets will move the pegs back and down a bit.

Edit: Never mind. I didn't read the wiki. What Rodney said lol.

wowshk! that's a lot of responses in a short period of time!  haha

i'm addressing them all in this one post.

--

codajastal: yeah man always the first protocol but to get even used (early) gixxer oem or aftermarket pegs here in scotland will cost me a small fortune... for some unknown reason. whereas there's an abundance of cheapish late gixxer aftermarket pegs which are relatively cheap.

weedahoe: that's pretty sweet, i've seen quite a few rear set swaps on these, if i come across a set cheap enough it's something i'm considering.

rodneybr: looking awesome man! i really like the more slashed underside style in comparison to the more cylindrical ones.

Slack: ''I don't know myself, but are you sure they have to be pre 01?'' that's pretty much what i'm trying to find out as there seems to be changes to the pegs after 01' but there's a few items like that which claim to be compatible both prior and post. difficulty is that anything stateside (where it's cheaper and more widely available) is going to cost me about $40 to ship to scotland... absolutely nuts!

fetor56: that's a strange one, never heard of anyone lowering them on the gs before, much more prone to dragging them in the twisties though.

pieee: as much as it pains me to say it... it's purely for cosmetic purposes. i could argue that i would benefit from more leg room from the absence of the rubber on the chunky nasty looking stocks, another advantage could be that if you ground them in a corner the aluminium pegs will slide whereas the rubber could potentially dig in.

jas6377: i do that all the time haha but yeah it's something i've looked at doing but i dont mind the riding position on the gs too much, purely looking for a cosmetic change  :thumb:

just to clarify,

i live in Scotland, UK.
things aren't known for being cheap here,
shipping costs take something relatively cheaper, for example $9 pegs which weigh all of a couple of hundred grams would cost me quadruple to ship it here  utter madness haha

however i've found affordable late gixxer pegs here, but if you look at the rear pegs for pre 01' (which have are known fit with minor modification to the front rearsets) in comparison to the later rear pegs, it has a different shape on the connecting side, so there are changes between generations.

i realise that literally anything can be made to fit if you have the will but i'm looking for an easy option similar to - http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Pegs

the later pegs should work... should... hell they might even end up being a direct replacement haha that would be ideal.

just thought i'd see if anyone else had experience which would suggest otherwise

thanks guys & i hope that wasnt too heavy a read  :tongue2: haha
