Ok so this night be posted somewhere but I'm new to this sire so bear with me lol. My bike is good except for 1 issue. It only happens about every other time I ride. Ill be going about 75 mph down highway all fine and dandy and then my 2000 gs5e will start to fight me to go 75 so ill oblige and start cruising at about 65 and now very thing is fine (aka pickup and power) but as soon as I try to get back up to 75-80 she'll start the fight again and ill be forced to back down again. Please help with any ideas and much thanks.

Ps I found a couple articles like this problem but not exactly the same.  ;)

I to am new. But I have experienced in Brazil on my GS500 a similar problem when I had a problem with the flow of gasoline through my carburettors. And a friend encountered the same problem whne his gasoline tank was improprley "venting" as the hole in the gasoline cover was jammed with debris. Maybe these comments help you? Good luck.

Welcome to here! ..

.. could be a range of minor issues .. and i expect most of the diagnostic people here will ask you to clarify or expand on your info a little...

so ...

is it a gradual die-off of power and semi smooth , or a sharp drop in power?

does the engine stutter/cough while the effect is happening?

do you know if any modifications have been done by previous owners OR have you modified the engine/air filter/exhaust/jets at all?

is there more wind blowing when it happens? .. perhaps stronger headwind or side wind blowing?

have you done any checks on fuel system and or voltage or other items so far?

.... it sounds vaguely like 'crosswind stumble' to me ... which is created/affected by various incorrect hose routing under the tank area/carb area .. but ive not experienced it myself so not sure ..

also .. how 'handy' are you at fixing/searching for problems?... new to it or 'been around engines a bit'?

hopefully with some more info the tech-heads we have lurking around here can wave the magic wands for you  :thumb:

oh and PICS!!! .. we all like pics!! .. general bike ones ... techy engine ones .. problem area ones... pics!! lots of pics!!  ;)

Please elaborate on crosswind stumble and relationship to piping under the motorcycle tank. Crosswind stumble is new idea for me on GS500.

It's never real windy when I ride and the engine Boggs and gives me just enough spurts of power to be able to bearly maintain speed even with throtal wide open its burst of power here and there

Another common one with similar symptoms... Gas cap vent... sometimes a tank bag can also create similar symptoms.

Here is a run down of cleaning the gas cap vent thoroughly.

Take the air filter out to see if its not getting enough air. Put it (or a cleaner/better one back in though).

The Buddha

The bogging in wind phenomenon was common in GSXR's of old. I never heard of it with a GS ...
But you're getting too much air in that burst ... the solution is to install the airbox back with the face and even top cut out but sides left as intact as you can, you dont want direct air flowing into the filter ... you want the engine toi suck the air. You are not wanting to get rammed with air.

Cool.
