In India, okra is called "lady fingers", like the dessert.

Giblet soup ...

when i was a young fella (under 10) ..my dad and grandad used to take me out with them duck shooting on a swamp ... i'd be runnin backwards and forwards like a gun dog bringing in the downed birds... when we got back home my grandad would start some water boiling and toss a couple chopped onions in the pot, some mixed herb flakes .. and the Giblets from the ducks .. Hearts, crops (cleaned out) , liver and sometimes little kidneys .. let it all simmer real low for half an hour... smelt real 'dirty meaty' .. but best tasting soup ever for "hunting buddies"  :thumb:

Anchovies.

Its not a real Ceasar Salad if it doesn't have anchovies guys.

No shaZam!.  And 98% of restaurants don't even have them to put on a salad.  I keep anchovie paste in the fridge.  I put some in my Caesar dressing and shake it up.

Fear the banana hammer!

Giblets.  Yea it's all good.  I love liver in particular.  Whether turkey, chicken or beef or pig.  It is so rich in nutrition.  And grill some onions with it with lots of butter.  Oh baby.

Another thing I really like is figs.  90% of people have never eaten one.  And yet it may be one of the best tasting fruits (flower really) ever.  I have 2 pounds in my fridge.  Dried figs are good too, but I prefer fresh.  They are in season in AZ right now.

Ooh yeah ... Fresh figs! ... Also ... Bamboo steamer ... Put figs in for about 8 mins on 'medium' steam ... Little drizzle of honey and balsamic vinegar over top (yeah trust me!) ... Big scoop of rich vanilla ice cream .........

..... Now I have drool all over the iPad again!!  :icon_rolleyes: ;) :thumb:

Here's another great local one...it's called a smiley (you can also buy half smiles). The most tender meat always comes from the least used muscles...and where are the muscles used least but in the head? You slow cook it for like four hours and it literally falls of the bone. As long as you don't mind a meal that stares back at you.

Also quite partial to beef tongue...boiled, skinned, sliced and served on fresh home-made bread. With a little whole-grain mustard and lettuce. Only meal that tastes you back.  :thumb:

Gulab Jamun (indian sweet) and gulab jamun syrup .
Cool.
Buddha.

Gulab jamun is the bomb.  And not a weird food at all unless you don't like fried dough with super sweet sugar syrup.  It may be the best kept secret of Indian cuisine.
Forgot aboutthis GEM

Gulab Jamun toasted till the syrup bubbles is the bomb ... get the thing the ysell in the can so the syrup is thick as paste ... he he ...

Now Gulab Jamun lite = Rasagolla.
Rasmalai - has too many steps cos the versions in the can are dry. You have to make a whole milk and this and that preparation round it to make real rasmalai.
Then Try Soan papdi ... I have a big tray (not trey who now is Dora the illegal alien ) of it I am working through.

Anyway Okra in India is not called lay fingers ... its called "ladies finger" ... Those brits.

Cool.
