My buddy asked me today how fast do GS's go... I had no clue as mine doesn't like to go over 120kmh due to a bad carb setup...

How fast have you guys/gals gotten you're bikes to go?
I broke it... I bought it...

105 mph, and i still had like 2krpm till redline in 6th gear. It was down a hill too. So Im eventually going to have to drop a tooth in the front, because im a bit heavy for the bike (220lbs or 100kg).
Happyness is like peeing you pants.  Everyone can see it but only you can feel its warmth.

I've had one up to 110 mph indicated.  Donno how fast it actually was, some of my race GSs have probably been faster but there is no way to know...

I have had mine up to 115 down hill. It actually felt pretty smooth.

I got my '99 up to an indicated 115 shortly after I got it.  Fairly level ground, but possibly with a tailwind.  About a year later I hit 120 coming down a good hill south of Moab, UT.

Last year on my British Columbia trip I was able to coax her fully-loaded self up to 100 once or twice.

These are all "middle of nowhere" speeds, of course.   :thumb:

I had my 92 GS pegged to redline at 135mph (indicated)
My friend was behind me on a Yamaha FZR600 and comfirmed the speed.
Conditions were perfect. Level ground with a slight tailwind.
Even my 89 will top out at 125.

180 KM/h which equals:  185 /1.6 =  115.5MP/h

Here, at 2200 meters over sea level I do often 150 Km/h (around 94 MPH) indicated on level ground and 160 (around 100 MPH) on downhill and 140 uphill with no problem, I guess at sea level someone could go a little bit faster. The problem is traffic so I can't hold those speeds very long for safety. Perhaps next time I get out of the city can try them for long periods, but then federal police would be a problem.

110 mph seems to be about all the GS can do without putting some cash into it.

105 on Rt340.  Cold day on level ground and not sure if there was any wind at all.  I think around 9K so there is still untapped speed out there. :thumb:

do you redline at top speed? what is the rpm at about 110 mph?

THIS is by far my most favorite thread.  I love it.  :)

I had my bike ['02] doing just over 190 km/h.  There could have been a tailwind, and I may have been going downhill.  But does that matter?  So, let's say 120 MPH.

It's funny how motorcyclists usually don't concern themselves with how fast our bikes go.  If I wanted to go FAST, I would have bought a GSX-R.

People who DON'T ride, always ask this question first.  "How fast does your bike go?"  SOOOO predictable.  I usually tell people it goes FASTER than I need it to..and probably faster than they've ever been before.  There is no comparison between a bike going 190, and a car going 190.  ESPECIALLY, a naked GS.   :bs:

I'm sure we can all agree we DIDN'T buy our GS's to break land speed records.   :nana:

I've had my stock GS up to 185 km/h on the Autobahn.  It doesn't feel impressive, it just feels a bit faster than 140 km/h.  At high speed it's still very stable although it does feel a bit light. You can't hear the engine anymore because of the wind and it's almost vibrationfree, very weird.  You only see the tach on a constant 9200 rpm......

Ive had mine to where the needle on my 210km/h speedo was buried and couldnt move any farther. It was neat to see. I liked it!
Than my dad passed me in the car and I felt stupid. He still had another 50 km/h to go. Damn him!!!

Multiply km by .62 to get miles.
Multiply miles by 1.6 to get km.

210 km * .62 miles/km = 130.2 miles
