High-mount exhaust

I built myself a high-mount exhaust system today.
Took a slip on exhaust I happened to have laying around (it's an almost straight through reverse megaphone style - from JC Whittney or something...) and after cutting the stock exhaust off, I used a bit of s-bend auto exhaust and fit it right up.  The can comes along the side of the seat and exhaust just about level with the tail light.
Sounds nice too - loud, but nice.
I'll need to finish up tomorrow with the exhaust clamps, a bit of exhaust tape around the s-bend (right where my right heel MAY touch) and getting rid of a little exhaust leak around the canister.  Plus a bit of tweaking with the jetting.
My initial impression is the bike pulls from low easily and sounds like a MUCH LARGER BIKE - almost like my Laverda - like an air-cooled twin SHOULD sound - only louder.
Anyway - I'll post picks as soon as possible once I get the thing all worked out.  I've got a 3 day weekend, so hopefully everything will be good by Tuesday morning.

If it comes to it, is there anything I can do to make the sound a bit more legal-friendly... maybe the packing material you can buy to repack other exhausts?

I'd like to see the pics ... I thought about putting on a stock can from an R1, R6 or SV.  You can get them cheap off eBay for $5-30.  I don't expect any performance improvement but I think the look and sound would be worth it. :thumb:

High mount would be cool! 8)

i just got my GSXR 750 can from ebay...26 bucks....(thanks ebay) and it's a lot biger then stock so i'm hoping that it will help a little with performance and sound

I've got pics, but no way to put them up on the internet.
I also found that auto parts stores sell a flexible 18" exhaust pipe that I could use instead of the bent solid metal piece I have now... the exhaust I have on now is really a prototype to se how it would work out.  I've got the jetting really close - but the bike does get hot... maybe too lean?

Once I get another chance I think I will try to build a system with a nicer can.  I've also got the entire pipe from the 2-way joint on the stock pipe to the canister wrapped in high-temp exhaust tape...  I did this to avoid buring the hell outta myself from the pipe, but I'm now wondering if the tape is holding heat in that I don't want... anyone know?

And again - can't say ENOUGH about the sound!!!  It's a very awesome sound.  Like a Ducati with straight pipes!!!!

Thanks.

I wouldn't use the flexible stuff, all the ridges could disturb all the flow you just gained by cutting off the boat anchor (stock can).

Actually, by wrapping your headers in heat tape, the added header temp is supposed to help the exhaust flow more. I did it on my single, don't know if it helped but it sure looked cool :thumb:

Wonder if that worked?

It's on page 13 of the members bikes gallery...

Anyway - the pipe is still in development.  I'll eventually mount a different canister and get a different pipe bent better... either way - it can be done...
