Problem with my choke

I'm having a problem with my bike rpm's shooting up to 6000 as soon as I turn my choke on to start my bike . Anyone know why it would be doing this ? Every other bike I've had stuck around 2000 rpm's when the choke was on.

Mine will go to 4k on full choke... 6k might be a bit high ? .. What's your base idle at with no choke when warmed up?

Mine also goes to 4000 which is quite normal on full choke but 6000? Is a bit high

When it is warmed up it idles at about 1100 rpm's

Mine rises to about 5k.. i thought it was normal for these bikes?  :dunno_black:

One of the respected guys around here (I forget who) mentioned something about setting theirs at just under 2k rpms after warm at idle due to low oil pressure under that setting. I believe stock is 1400-1500 rpms, so 1100 is too low from my understanding. You can adjust that with the black thumb screw near the right carb.

respected.... hmmm... oh yeah wait... im just notorious and exasperating!!  :icon_twisted:

i have had mine 'surge' a little to 5k when on full choke .. very occasionally.... but as soon as it starts to climb above 3 ish i normally back it off just a little and let it warm further with about 2.5k ... then back to zero before i start moving... (its not that cold here so works fine) ..

i did have my no choke idle wound right down to about 1100 for a little while .. but it was sometimes grumpy and lumpy when coming back to a stop... so up to about 1800-2k and all good for just about anywhere ..

and just to refresh .. this isnt exactly a 'choke' circuit like on an old car ... its a 'fuel enrichment' setup ... which as i understand it .. does open the slides just a tad and lets more fuel in the idle jet? ... someone slap me if thats wrong...

so .. also as i understand it .. with more airflow and a faster rate through the smallest jet ... of course the idle will climb more than a true 'choke setup' ???
