Ogio No-Drag Mach series backpacks

Any backpack users on here? I'm currently using my mountain-bike backpack for riding and it's just not cutting it anymore. It's too small and the straps fly about and hit you in the neck, it's just really annoying.

I've been drooling over the Ogio Mach series for quite a while. Looks like a great design. I'm looking to carry shoes and a laptop with me, so the Mach 1 is looking like the best option for me. No liner so it would be easy to clean on the inside, and looks like a really solid, ergonomic and comfortable design. Mach 5 looks pretty nice, but I don't think I need all those extra pockets and a liner for another $80.

Anyone have any experience or any other backpacks they'd recommend? I've been to all the bike shops in my area in southern ontario (very few, and the selection is usually horrible - like one backpack per store) and haven't found anything I liked, so I'll be ordering from online which is why I'm trying to do a lot of research. Trying to keep it under $200 if I can.

I use the black 'kitchen sink' by Oakley.  Mainly cause I can carry so much crap in it.  It's the best one I've had so far.  The straps do fly around and whip me sometimes, but whatever.  Never used one of those aero backpacks myself.

My older bro has the kitchen sink. Amazing backpack! Not really what I'm looking for on the motorcycle though.

Looking for a streamline low-profile pack that still has a good amount of space inside and can carry a laptop. That's mainly why the Ogio no-drag pack intrigues me so much. Just wish I could find one locally to try it on, I'm very particular about my backpacks.

I use a No Fear backpack ... Which it seems is no longer available new from the online store  .... Much more utilarian than the modern line they have ... It's almost a hiking version ... Mesh side pocket for bottle water, mesh outer pocket for extra bits or quick access bits ... Chest and belly strap ... Wide comfy shoulder straps  .. 2 detachable side pockets for small bits ... Can fit lots in , have had a flat case of cola cans in it and still had room for my folder and extra shirt and trainers! ... Also rode the bike home that day ... Pack was heavy ... But never shifted ..  :D

Not so sticky outy as most of the new ones now ... More wide and flat ...

I may pix it later just as a style/type of the thing exercise ...

Oh and I've had it 20 years.... It's gone on camping trips, truck trips, in plane cargo, been dropped and dragged occasionally (by a mate  :icon_rolleyes: ), I look after it but don't 'princess' it ... Gets washed once in a while ... It has not broken ... Anywhere! .. Zips, structure and straps are still as good as when I bought it ... It's good!

.. And a bit like No Fear said to the manufacturers .. ' we want a tough backpack to suit our brand image... A pack that can take abuse, rugged trips, carry a load, be comfy to wear and Last!!' ... Then a few years later ... 'Oh crap... We didn't mean THAT tough!! ... We want the customers to come back for another one sometime!!!'  :icon_eek:

Sorry .... Thread jack end

It's kind of the same as Outbound backpacks. Ridiculously high quality backpacks with a REAL lifetime warranty on anything and everything on it. They went out of business (actually I think they bought by someone else) because they never had repeat customers because they were still using the same backpack from 10yrs ago. I used my outbound backpack from grade 6 all the way to high school. Saw TONS of abuse. Broke one zipper and it was repaired in less than a week. You ship it out from the store and they ship it back to your house. I still have it and it's perfectly fine, it was just a victim of a misfortunate used-oil spill accident.

I wish alpinestars had a warranty program like that. I called them up about a split zipper on my $350 boots that are only a couple weeks old and they basically said nothing is covered unless your boots suddenly fall apart while sitting there. Wouldn't have paid this kind of money for these things if I knew alpinestars warranty program was so garbage. I definitely didn't get $350 worth of boot.

just for the hell of it .. i searched round the web as many places as i could think of... cant find the 'no fear' branded one anywhere & it was 20 years ago!! .. the closest thing i could find in the web now is various CERT backpacks .. Community Emergency Response Team .. basically a lightweight pack with extra pockets and bits for quick access to a lot of stuff ... PROBABLY not that different from a lot of backpacks!!! .. just the extra side pockets and such ... which i find damn handy for cigs, wallet, micro 1st aid kit etc.

whatever pack anyone gets ... you DEFINITELY get what you pay for!! (for the RRP anyway)

anyway .. a few pics of my 'old warrior/indestructa-pack'  ;) .. i do remember i got it at a clearance warehouse sale for $50 ... it was normally $170 IIRC? ..

the last image has a mens size US10 shoebox inside .. for a overall internal size comparison ..  :thumb:

I have an Alpinestars Areotech tank bag that will unzip from the base into a back pack. Expandable and I love it

a thought occurs.... wow that must be like 7 today!! .. no wonder my head hurts!  ;)

... most of these major brands end up having warehouse stock clearance sales... often advertised through their mailing lists .. i know the NO Fear used to a lot... and i get ones now for Black Wolf gear , Joe Rocket from time to time... anyway ... for the minor drama of having a few extra emails in your box occasionally ... there is usually some good savings to be had!... the clearance shops online often run something at a bit of a discount... but semi regularly there are 'fire sale' situ ... you just gotta be quick eh!  :thumb:

.. and ... HOTDAMN!! ... after pix the backpack today at work.. i was just putting it back in ute .. the top side pod of the bag bumped my leg .. thought... that felt strangely solid?!?! .... found the multimeter!!... only misplaced it for 7 or 8 weeks!!...
