1999 Suzuki GS500E - 31k miles

This bike has been lovingly maintained over the last five years, and is in great shape.  I'm only selling it because I recently had a baby, and don't ride the bike anymore.

A short list of things that I've done:

   - obsessively fixed every oil leak I could find, replacing most of the gaskets on the bottom half of the engine and replacing various seals (thanks in large part to this board)
   - Replaced suspension springs, vastly improving the ride by making it less mushy
   - Added a new Vance & Hines exhaust, overhauled and re-jetted the carburetor
   - Replaced handlebars for a more aggressive European style ride
   - New tires - less than 500 miles on them
   - New battery - starts every time

Specs:
   - about 30MPG.  I get about 130 miles to the tank.  Costs about $12 to fill up.

There are a few cosmetic blemishes - a dent or two on the gas tank, but nothing substantial.  It's a great looking bike and I get lots of compliments on it.

$1500 or OBO - I'd rather it went to someone on GSTwins than anyone else....

Adidasguy where are you??
My budget is thin from buying "toys" for the "pet" raccoons.

I think I've seen that bike. Only 2 of that color that I know of.

snowbrdr76

Adidasguy - you've definitely seen it.  We met up at Backfire moto last year in Ballard.

I recently moved a few blocks away from you - but really don't ride the bike any more.

Holy dead raccoon - you're now a neighbor? You've got to stop by. Where have you been hiding? There are people looking for a GS500. I'll try to remember who.

Gorilla

i might have a friend who would want this. hes wanting a learner bike this would be perfect. let me ask him.

Hahaha.. between my job, the new house, and the new baby, almost every waking hour is accounted for...

Gorilla - thanks!  I'd love to see this go to someone from GSTwin.com.

30mpg, are you kidding? Is it pouring gas out the exhaust or is it because you have it full throttle a lot or ? Nice looking bike with the exception of the gas mileage unless that's a typo or incorrect calculation...

It's a rough calculation - I don't really ever let it get close to empty and I also don't ride frequently.  Maybe it's higher? What do other folks get?

For the sake of saving your for sale thread... have a look through a recently revived mileage thread linked below... there are many, many on the board.

http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=60354.0

I would refrain from anymore mileage talk in this thread unless it pertains to the actual sale... you can see what mileage threads turn into... just like oil threads, gas threads, etc.. all go to arguments, then aussies take over with talk of milk in handlebars, then tard farm, then off into internet abyss until another unsuspecting twinner opens a new thread on it...

Anyways  :icon_rolleyes:

...

Decent looking bike.  Good luck with your sale.  Hope it goes to a twinner... or at least brings in a new twinner!

Ok I have to ask after old Mechanic posted up his new 89.. and there was discussion of the front fender.

Was your front fender black on the back half from the factory?

Old Mechanic

His is a 99. I think the only one I have seen like my 89 was the same color (white) with the same stripes (light blue and darker blue). It was on the internet in the pictures section of Suzuki GS500Es and it had the black back portion of the front fender. I would guess they painted the front but left the rear in the natural color of the plastic which was black.

Old Mechanic. My 89 is that way, your 89 is that way, his 99 is that way. Kind of odd for people to just paint he back half of the front fender black..

But the bike is great looking snowbrdr76.

I imagine you will sell it fairly quick!

Thanks.  Still no bites on the bike.  Do you think the price for this is fair?  I really didn't do that much research before I listed it, just based it on what I paid for the bike plus the new parts that went into it.

adidasguy

I think it would go fast on CL. Prices for GS500's are high right now. This is a good weather stretch so selling should be easy. Without seeing it in person (and you're a neighbor?) I can't really say if  the price is high or low. It does seem appropriate.
I don't have anyone needing one at the moment.

jacob92icu

I am interested if I could possibly get a complete loss from an insurance company. That would probably be about what I got and your bike looks to be all there like mine was..
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Gorilla

my friend never confirmed he said he would think about it. i say just go ahead and sell it nevermind his indecisive ways
