Two women in an SUV pulled over into my lane and clipped my bike and sent me wobbling out in front of another car. This happened around 2 oclock, broad daylight... We were both doing the speed limit (~35). The bike downed and slid into a parked car waiting to turn in the middle of suicide lane, I slid into the car with my hip and did some helicopters. I am fine by the way, just a little scraped up, thank God I had my gear on.

Anyways, I'm really bummed cause I literally just put on a new full stainless steel Jardine exhaust and now its ruined. Heres some photos of the damage.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune man, atleast your ok.........was the bike insured,it looks like a near insurance write-off?

jacob92icu

Bike is not insured, which is legal in Washington state, but stupid i agree. However if it does indeed come to be the ladies fault i should be able to get some compensation hopefully. I should have pulled a jack black in anchorman..

Glad to hear you are ok, the bike still start and run? the damages generaly look worse then they are.  now you can do some serious customizing. put a katana 600 front end on it.   the Frames on the GS are tough, you will tweak swing arm, tail section and forks before you hurt that frame.   trust me i know

keep all receipts of parts purchased and hours you log putting the wrench time into it (shops average 60-70$ per hour).  this way you hand them the dealerships estimate for repairs,  and then hand them the slightly lower amount of your repair bill  then inquire which they would like to pay for now or go to court over?
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

You know I'll do whatever is necessary to get your bike fixed. We have the parts.

I was shocked when returning from Vashon to get your message. Austin should be able to give advice as he had a crash a few weeks ago and had to deal with the cager's insurance.

I COULD be nasty and do a NEENER NEENER YOU SHOULD HAVE RODE WITH US TODAY but that's not my style.  :icon_rolleyes:

Just glad you're OK. We can fix your bike. Whatever it takes - we WILL fix it.

You can transport your bike over anytime you wish and we'll get going on it. You know where most of the parts are. I'll make a space for it in the Bike Cave so you can get to work. Worry about costs later. First let's get you all fixedd up.

Yeah that really sucks hopefully her insurance will cover the damages

Any day you walk away from your bike is a good one, especially a crash. Glad you are ok but I will say this, if you are still sore go get checked out! I didnt get the right treatment after my wreck and my shoulder is permanently screwed up! Not worth "sucking it up."

The two ladies did stop, and the other lady that the bike and my body hit. That was very good. I was so mad that I don't remember saying a word to the ones who bumped me. Pretty sure she was texting and didnt have a blinker on. I wouldnt have passed had I seen a blinker. I know that.

The worst part is my whole family saying to not ride motorcycles anymore. Of course I am still going to ride... So annoying.

Thanks for all your kind words everyone. I will ask today for the police report and hopefully get the ladies insurance information with the phone number provided.

Patrick I would be glad to attempt to rebuild it, but honestly I am going back to school soon on the east side and you know how that is...

Buddha, thanks for the offer, but I will most likely be getting parts from patrick. I had sonic springs installed, but I am interested in the Katana FE.

Yea, they think my little kia rio is going to protect me..

And Snake, the gear held up real well. I was considering posting pictures but I didnt feel like taking them. It made the jacket slide around and not my skin. I did get a little rash on my arm from rubbing on the inside of the jacket, but not nearly as bad as it would have been without it. No holes in the jacket, just road rash.

My gloves on the other hand, alpine star carbon fiber knuckles also held up real well, but got some soon to be holes on the palms cause I braced my self with my hands I guess. They did their job though. No scraps on my hands.

Just be glad you're okay. I know we all fall in love with our bikes and put in hours of wrench time, but the screw the bike, you walked away.

I couldn't imagine the family situation if I ever got into a crash. The "I told you so's" would be flying every which way. People who get into car accidents don't automatically stop driving their cages. Just wish they'd watch out for us and respect us more.

Ride safe guys!

That would be awfully nice gorilla, but first i need to figure out what's going on with insurance. Hopefully all goes well but who knows. Your right waggoner, it's just a huge disappointment. That's a very valid argument about how nobody stops driving their cars when they get in an accident.

If the lady WAS texting or on the phone, the police could check her phone records and her phone. I doubt he erased her history. Anyway, the phone company would have records of it (and the NSA  :flipoff: ) just check her next cell phone bill.

If they total it, we should see about buying it from the insurance company or find out where it would be auctioned off then buy it and fix it or part it out and into one of the frames I have (which have clean titles).

It was a general idea ... I dont have a katana FE ... or atleast I dont have one that is 100% good ... I got some crappy legs, but no ready machined triples and stems ... and cant find the machinist ... the first one who is dead, and the second one was only marginally competent ...

Cool.

Patrick,

If it comes to that than I will do that. The worst case scenario is that she gets off Scott free and I have to live with my bike and pay for the damage to the other car in the suicide lane. The only way they will total the bike is if I say they can, since I am not dealing with my insurance, it is her insurance (if she has it). I think the best case scenario would be keep the bike and the goodies with it, have them pay me 70% of the bikes worth like what Austin said, and then buy another bike and swap parts that are still good and give you the rest of that bike.

Buddha,

I meant thanks for the offer on the fork legs that you might have. I just meant to say I would be interested in purchasing a katana front end if I could find one.

Random question, but what's "slingshot"? Anything special about it?
