First off, im back from a long and tiresome 7 months of training.

Now,  down to the issues at hand,
The first thing i did when i got home was but the bike on a charger overnight.  Success, she fired right up the next morning.  Went for a ride and put some new gas in her, and a little fuel treatment. She purred like a kitten.  A week and a half ago i took a tip for my birthday. Put the bike back in the barn with a battery tender-er-er-er.  Thought no problem ill be home in a week and go for a ride....WRONG!!!!

OK, so i have a completely dead bat!  Won't even take a charge, and its only about a year and a half old.  I thought it might be the tender-er-er-er so i jumped the bike with my car.  Started right up.  Yuppie!!!!....i celebrated way too soon!

It revs ok...just ok, not like it did before, in idle.  Started down the driveway and ::Sputter, sputter, backfire, High Rev, sputter sputter::

shaZam!!

F#^K!

I checked the air filter, thats clean.  Could this be a Fuel issue?  Or maybe the completely dead bat might not be delivering enough spark?

Im not an expert on bikes at all...and could really use some help.

Thanks
Peace out girl scout,

Maybe your bike sat with the voltage below 12.4 Volts for too long?

Is there any chance that you connected the Battery Tender-er-er-er backwards?  :dunno_black:

Whatever the reason is, I suspect the battery - at least in its current state of (non)charge.  I had a similar thing happen a few years ago while I was going down the freeway.  (See [Ole Yeller dies a spectacular (but temporary?) death...])

I eventually figured out that the battery was doing ALL of the electrical work on the bike, because there was a problem in the charging circuit.  When the battery got too depleted, the bike wouldn't run.  In my case, all I had to do (after performing a lot of electrical tests with a multimeter and receiving a new but un-needed part from a fellow GStwinner) was to clean some of the connections in the charging circuit.  (See [my last post on the second page] of that thread.)

I had ridden the bike in the rain for a while just before putting it away for 3 weeks.  Did you do anything like that?

[EDIT: I lost track of the fact you're STARTING your troubleshooting with a dead battery.  There's probably no reason to suspect your charging system at this point ... but store this info away for later.  :icon_rolleyes:]

Pull battery when stored for an extended period of time.

Then, a quick charge and you are good to go.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Thanks Guys,

I pulled the bat.  and hooked it up to a heavy duty charger. 24h later, put it back into the bike, fired right up!  Oh man, let me tell you how relieved i was.

Next time ill try not to freak out and post something before i make a proper assessment.
Peace out girl scout,
