I was given a 97 GS500, my old room mate took it apart broke something and gave up. It seems I always get people unfinished projects lol. He broke the butterfly in one of the carbs I have no Idea how. The story behind the bike is that it was dropped in 2001 at low speeds by a guy who used to live next to where I live now, after dropping it he had it sit for 8 years he sold is to the guy across the street. My old room mate bought it from him wanting to turn it into a chopper "He watched a lot of bike building shows but was a idoit"

So I plan to get it up and running again and ride it. I have it all back together but I still need carbs I know it will run "starter fluid in the intake told me that"

You guys know any place I can get a new carbs for it ASAP? Im looking on ebay I can only find 04-07 ones " Sorry if I got the years wrong "  I have just about given up on finding the butterfly

I also need the the gas cap I feel like I just got a bike from people that kept making it worse and worse

Any info will be much appreciated  :)

Once you get that thing running, you'll love it. And welcome to the forum!

As for carbs, you can fit the newer carbs on the older bikes. I'm not sure what all is involved in retrofitting the 04+, but I know it can be done. Perhaps one of the gurus will chime in with more info on this subject.

For the gas cap, keep an eye out in the For Sale section. You may be able to pick up an ignition cylinder, seat lock, and gas cap that all use the same key for a good price.

Good luck! I'll post back if I find anything.

2001+ carbs can be fitted if you change the intake boots and the boots from the airbox to the carbs.
all the extra junk on the newer carbs (throttle sensor, etc.) can be ignored as they are just sensors - not anything that controls the carbs.

Post a WTB here. People have carbs - and depends on whether you want running carbs or ones to rebuild.
