fuel in my oil - petcock problem?

Hi All,

So I seem to have fuel in my oil, so much that it was coming out of the breather on top of the valve covers as well. I have set float heights and rebuilt the carbs with all the new o-rings, needles, needle valves, etc. My petcock has NOT been in the PRI position, it's been in the ON position the whole time.

Could this be a frame petcock issue by any chance?

I should also mention that there was gas in the airbox as well..

Well, petcock could be part of the problem, but its not all of the problem for sure... Even if your petcock didn't work, or vacuum was not connected, etc... the fuel flow should still be stopped by the floats working with the needle valves correctly.  Something is awry with your carbs. 

Since there is all that new stuff in there... I'll ask... What kit did you buy? Specifically, what needle valves did you replace the OEM with?  Doesn't happen to be K&L does it? As many folks seem to have issues with non-OEM needle valves... they just happen to be one of those parts you must go OEM on...

I would start by double checking the float heights with a clear tube. If that checks out, pull the vacuum line off the petcock and see if there are any signs of fuel in the vacuum line.

Bockinboy, yeah, exactly - they're K&L. The stock needles barely had a groove in them so I'm thinking about going back to those and the stock needle valve/seat and then just swapping for the new o-rings.

Rossi, I'll check the float height again just to be sure and then look at the vacuum line for signs of fuel and report back.

Sounds like you need new OEM float needles.
