Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and hope to be a part of the family. I recently bought a 2006 gs500f and there are some issues i hope u guys can Help me out with. I bought this bike for 1000 and my buddy rode it for me and he said it rode great. But it has starting problems and also idle issues. So with the starting some times when turnin the shut off switch to the on position and trying to start it it will not do anything. No start sound nothing. The lights and head light turn on and everything. But when i flip the turn off switch on and off randomly it will work. U think the switch is bad? And the idle issue is like a cold start only worse. Some background info though when i bought it the guy had it stored for like a year and didt start it regularly. And im thinking the gas is old as well. But anyways i would turn the bike on sometimes it wont start at first but then i turn the choke on and it will start. But with the choke fully on it only idles at like 1000. Then after like 3 mins it will stay the same then i roll the throttle and it will jump to 4 grand and stay there. But then after 5 or so mins i will let the choke off and it will die. I will do this for like 10 or 15 mins and it will do the same thing every time. Then i will take the choke off and give aittle throttle and it will stay at 1000 without many issues. So i think its ok now. No not yet. I will ride it and it feels great. But then i come to a stop and i pull the clutch in and start to brake and it will cut the engine off. The oil light will come on and i will have to start the bike again. It will do this multiple times on a ride but not every time. And oddly sometimes it will turn off then i let off the clutch and give throttle and it will start again without having to stat the bike with the starter. Idk if thats jus a roll start like with cars that im doin but i thought it was strange. I am a brand new rider so idk bikes as much. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank u!

Yes, the switch may be worn/dirty/bad.  Disassemble and clean or replace.

And your carbs probably need a good cleaning.
