Question for my fellow aussies..
Ive overhauled the carbs. Runs first pop..only needs a little choke but then its a tad rich as I can smell it and a tad blue smoke..smidgen

Now its got installed new
120 main
40 pilot
Needle jet is on the 4th from bottom circlip ring..one down from top. No washers installed. Now the aur fuel was at 3 turns out from seated both sides.
Stock exhaust..stick airfilter.

Am I using the correct settings for the needle jet and air fuel mix ?

Throttle hangs a tad and comes down slowly. I found i had to fiddle with idle screw to sit it at a steady 1200-1500 revs...but it then hangs slowly at around 2500 after a throttle blip or rev up. Then it drops down

If the throttle hangs, it's typically lean... you don't want it like that! Too lean will hole pistons if it gets too hot.

I'm not flash on the 500 jetting as I have a 450, but the theory is the same.

Blue smoke is typically oil, not fuel also.

Stock exhaust and stock airfilter I'd be going back to stock jetting and see how it runs.

With the needle, you've effectively lowered it, which leans out the mixture at around 1/4 - 3/4 throttle which is where you spend most of your time while riding... probably not the best spot to be a bit lean :)

ahhh so the higher the circlip, the leaner it runs ?
What do you have your air fuel mix at 3 turns out ?

peteGS

Not quite... circlip going down means needles goes up = richer.

Circlip going up means needles going down = leaner.

On my 450 I have it on the second notch from the bottom, one notch richer than stock.

I also have much larger main jets (117.5 stock, I have 145's in there).

Note though that I have K&N pod filters, free flowing custom pipe, and modified carb slides and springs  :thumb:

Coolies. Ill drop it back to the first slot as i have stock air and pipe systems and jets

Stock on my 450 was the middle slot, I would assume the same on the 500 but can't 100% guarantee as I haven't fiddled with them before.

Forgot to answer the mixture screw question and mine are... well... no idea at present! I've been fiddling a quarter turn here and there to get it to idle nice as a compromise and I haven't gone back to count the turns at the moment. I'm going to guess at 3 to 3 1/2 though.
