Ok I found a 2001 Yam FZ1 on craigslist i havent went to look at it yet but it looks good in the pics, only thing i can see is that it has 59,000 miles the guy still drives it, new fork seals and rear shock rebuilt, pod air filters and Yashi exhaust rejeted by dealer, and corbin seat. he wants $1,500 firm. i have seen these with more miles just looking for some opinions on if i should buy it of not. from what i understand these have the R1 motor.

That's my understanding as well, same motor as the r1 just more comfortable seating position. That being said, 59k is a lot in my book, but if the motor and bike all together have been cared for, i don't see a problem with it going for a few thousand more miles. I say go check it out and if the guy seems like he cared for it a lot, and you test ride it and everything seems good, go for it.
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

He has went down $1,000 in four days seems really weird.

Now there's something to work with, is there something he didn't post on his add at first? Like miles, salvage title, bad battery... Etc? And when people email him they ask about it?

In my opinion I would be nervous, but I am also a very skeptical person.

I would liken this deal to getting a BMW with like 125k miles for 2000 dollars. It is just enough miles to make me worried, and the price being low also makes me worried.

FZ1s normally go for much more than that, and unless the guy just wants the thing sold in a matter of days, I can't imagine why he wouldn't want more for a bike in complete working order.

Just my few thoughts...

I emailed him he said that he needs to have work done on his pickup, he is still driving it, no damage, never been down, original owner, clear title in hand.

Miles are a bit high but hey 1000 isn't too bad.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

That is literally the dopiest thing I've read on the internet all day.

OP, it's a high mileage, big CC standard motorcycle. There is no market for them hence the price. If it has a clean title and all that, I'd gladly pay a G note. You won't lose money if you go to sell it on.

Cool.

I currently daily an FZ6R, back on this forum cause my wife just upgraded to a GS500 from her Ninja 250. GS was my first bike years ago. Anyway....

The FZ6R, FZ8, and FZ1 are all very similar. Upright comfortable seating position. The FZ6R has the old R6 block with lower compression pistons and a head not made for reving as high or breathing as freely. It's makes about 60% of the power of the R6 but makes a lot more torque and a whole lot earlier. The FZ1 is basically the same thing when compared to the R1. Same motor... sort of. Same block, yeah, but everything has been reworked for smoothness, commuting, and fuel economy. With that said, it will still shoot your eyeballs back in your head, just not the same as the R1. I think the FZ1 is about as quick in a straight line as a 600cc super sport, maybe a touch slower.

Used FZ1s are a strange market though. They are initially pretty expensive, but not many people own or want them. 2-4 year old resale could be 8 grand. After that, MUCH lower. I've seen some bikes in perfect condition on my local craigslist for $2,000 and $3,000. No joke.

Just my cents. Nice to be back. I'll probably start a thread later this week on how my new GS is giving me a huge headache.......
