HELP!! :(

Was riding my bike fine yesterday, Hit the reserve tank, drove home, parked up no problems. Try and start it this morning and it rolls over, and it starts to pop as if its about to start, but no joy, Keep trying, Then switch it to prime, Even less of an effect! All the lights work but the oil light turns off after i try to start it. Its now making a ticky zappy noise from the battery, So is this just a battery issue or could it be something else?  Its a 2000 GS500e With only 11k miles on the clock! I know that it had issues with the battery but i thought it would have charged from being ridden. Please help!

Have you tried push starting it to confirm that it's the battery?

Not enough room as im in a residential car park, Never done it before either.

Similar happens to mine when there is too much fuel in my bowl of the carby. Between using the choke and the revs it does finally start. ( maybe yours is similar) if you let it sit for a while.

Don't need that much room.  I assume you can walk the bike to an alley or road.   Put it in 2nd then start pushing the bike, when you get to a jog pop the clutch.

Are you sure you have gas?  maybe crack the drain plugs on the carbs to make sure there is gas in the carb bowls.

Yes I have gas, The battery is violently ticking now, For the push start I assume i hold the clutch while its in 2nd?

In my experience, a ticking from an electrical component usually means there's a loose connection somewhere. Did you check your battery leads?

yes, hold the clutch in so the bike can free roll. then when you hop on, let it out and give it a little gas so as not to stall. be careful withe the bike bucking as it struggles to start.

Never did this in a GS, but those are my experiences with other moto's

Battery dead.

You can mess with bump starting (possibly dropping it in the process since you are new to the experience and bikes in general)... or you can try to jump start it from another car (car must be off and doesn't need turned on!)... or you can get a multimeter and diagnose from low voltage... or you can pull the battery and take it into an auto shop/supply and get it load tested...

All will tell you if the battery was dead, and only the load test will tell you if its going to happen again and if you need a new battery.

To add on to what Bboy said, if you go the multimeter route, which is easy, check for voltage drop even you try to crank it. If it's a bad battery, it still may show around 12V under no load, but it'll drop like a rock when you try to crank it.

Hey guys i'm borrowing my pals 4amp charger, I believe it is the battery. I will keep you guys posted, thanks all for the advice so far
