I can't watch the video too well, but the bit I did get to see.... it honestly just acted like it was cold and needed choke. Is the choke circuit hooked up? Is it working properly (spring in right position)? ... I believe the choke circuit is commonly missed when cleaning carbs, too.

Another member mentioned idle/pilot circuit... that one is commonly missed when cleaning for sure... if its bad enough some folks use a thin wire to help clear it, then compressed air... the manual and many carb cleaning guides recommend against using wire because it can 'bore' out the passage if not carefully done... but sometimes its about the only way to get the gunk out of those small circuits.

It does it even when warm and all of the circuits were very clean. The floats needed barley adjusted and I did the float test check and it was spot on.

Hmm, go with the a top-down approach... ensure adequate fuel at all stops... from tank to petcock to carbs to engine... then look at electrical... then look at compression

While checking fuel, you need to check air... ensure the air filter isn't blocked, ensure you don't have the opposite - a big air gap.

Just gotta take it step by step, rule things out, then move to the next...

Edit:  Video loaded better this time... it sounds like there is a clacking noise? ... and it seems it takes time to come down when you blip the throttle.  So I would be checking for air leaks based on that.  Check around the carb boots, as that's the most common spot... but use WD40 and spray all around the carbs to test for it... if there is a change in rpms with the spray, then there is an air leak.

The clack makes me think of an exhaust leak though, and I'm not sure how that would affect it other than the sound... maybe someone can answer that for us?

So I checked had gas in all the lines and it didn't change when I turned it to prime. It has a brand new air filter and brand new fuel. I spayed with carb cleaner and wd40 around all of the boots/vacuum hoses. I was going to take my exhaust off to sand and reaping but only got 1 bolt from each side off before I decided to not do it, so I think the exhaust is tight now. I don't have a compression tester, but I might try to do that this weekend. Anything else I should try? I also have replaced spark plugs too.  And thanks for all your ideas, even if I thought I've checked it's always good to have someone else tell me to do it again!

So I was able to obtain an engine. I bought a 2000 with 1200 miles on it. I was going to see if someone could direct me to a thread that has someone who put an older engine into a new frame with everything from but the motor from the newer year bike, such as gauges, and coils and everything like that. I couldn't find one when I searched.

man, it just looks like you need to turn your idle speed up after warm.

The main bearing blew apart in that engine. When you turned the idle up, and then revved it it would rev up to over 4000 and wouldn't come down, then when you tried to back it down to the 1200 where it's supposed to be at it wouldn't stay there and would just die. I took it into a shop to have them look at it, and that's what happened.

The 2000 engine is exactly the same as the 2004 engine. its a Buddha Loves You to get the engine in and out no matter what year it is. you just have to be patient and puzzle it in like one of those 3D block mind-f%$k puzzles.

Sorry about your first engine, someone must have forgotten to check the oil. or change it ever.

Alright cool, I just wanted to make sure that I didn't have to change any wiring or anything like that. Yea it was kinda a pain to get the old engine out. And it was from gas getting into the crankcase and as we all know, gas doesn't lubricate anything like oil does.

So the motor was shipped today, and he also had a headlight with bucket and brackets from a 2001. So since my fairings were pretty cracked and rough, I'm deciding to take them off and turn it into an "E" until I can either find new fairings, or fix my old ones.
Before it gets here just some small questions.
What should I put on the header bolts to keep them from seizing up? The last bolts from my old motor I had to drill out. Which also means I have to find new ones to put on.
Is there any prep work that I should do to my frame before I put the new engine in?
I have a brand new front and rear tire that need to be put on. Does anyone know how to break beads or possible to do with hand tools? Or does anyone know where to get a cheap tire changer?

Okay so I got the 2001 engine today and there are a couple questions I have:
I was reading and someone said that you have to change the pickups over. What exactly does that mean?
My 2004 engine had a electric tachometer, but it looks like this one has a mechanical (ie. cord in the front of the engine case). Do I need to do anything with that?
Should I change the sprocket from the old engine over to the new one?
Anything else I should be looking out for or do when I'm switching it over?
I have taken an engine out and rebuilt one in other bikes, but never an engine swap so any help I can get is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

You can just put your old ignition in the new engine including the pickup rotor (this will be found behind the round cover on the right of your engine considering you drive it.
The 2004+ engine has a diverend
The pickup for the tacho has to stay at its place otherwise it will leak oil (just remove the cable if it is still in place by turning it clockwise).

I hope this helps you.

Yes the does help quite a bit. Thank you!

Anyone have tips to get the new motor in? I have it almost in there, but I can't quite get the motor mounts to line up. I have it on a jack and trying to wiggle it in, but not having any luck.

Alright everything is in place, had gas in the tank, full charged battery, and fresh rear tire (tyre). Turned it on lights all worked and showed in neutral. Pressed the start button and nothing. No clocking or anything. Lights didn't flicker like it was drawing power. So I checked all connections and everything looked good. Anyone have ideas on what's with that? Again thanks for everyone's help.

Okay so went back today and was able to get it to turn over by shorting the solenoid, but even with they key on it doesn't run. I checked with the search tool, and I thought with the key on it should start.
