ok i bought my little GS way back in may, I've had to do a few things to her in that time, just a basic service, oil change, filters, clutch cable and adjust clutch, new chain, sprockets and tyres. she was showing 15,500 miles and now has 18,700 ish.. so ive put a few miles on her over this summer. my mind is now turning to what i will do to her over the winter.

im thinking, just to be safe im gonna replace cam chain, do the valve clearances and reshim if required, do the clutch plates and springs, new brake pads and fluid. and i really do need to do something about the suspension. im a big guy 6ft 2, weigh about 225lb and as much as i love my GS, its a little to soft and cramped. so i did some looking about, seems a Yamaha R6 rear shock will fit (what else do i need except the shock) and ive looked at Hagon progressive front springs, and perhaps slightly heavier oil that standard?

Now my bike has a fairing, its one of the earlier faired jobs with the twin round lights, but im thinking of changing that as the fairing makes simple jobs a pig to do, involving fighting with fastners and stripping bodywork. i do like the screen, and a bellypan. and a single seat unit. but I'm on a limited budget, after all the GS is a cheap bike. and mines is 18yrs old, so can't merit spending big cash on it. im thinking a budget of £600 or about $1000 to get her looking and running sweet. i want her reliable... very! and looking good.

what cost effective mods can i do to improve handling, and looks, as well as comfort for my build? id like to get a list organised of what are "must do" and "like to have" for working on her this winter.

The fairing is rare in the USA.
If you take it off, sell it to someone on the board.
I have one on my bike I call Junior and a couple more fairings for upcoming bike builds. I had to import them from the UK and Germany.
There are 2 models: one with 2 round lights and one with the trapezoidal headlight (which still has 2 separate lamps).
They have the brands TCP or FiveStars. 5* was the German branch of TCP. In March this year, TCP of Spain closed their doors.

its a twin round lamp... without the cover.. one of the lamp glasses has a crack on it.. i see its actually branded as an aprillia unit?? the headlamp that is. the fairing is a bit tatty, couple scratches, and down under the belly pan theres a piece about 2"x1.5" missing, so i was gonna try either glassfibering it, or finding the appropriate section on ebay to make the fairing complete, the screen has a crack near top left.. previous owner tightened a fastener to tight and this caused the crack.

does the rear seat unit and seat from the later F version fir onto the older E frame without to much mods? im toying with idea of later rear seat unit. or a single seat.. i like the tank as it is, a belly pan and a bikini type fairing. so i have better access to the engine to do any work.

anyone know the correct paint code for the frame silver paint? i have a few bits that need touched up.
