Any Sunglass Recomendations??

I like wearing sunglasses under my visor rather than switching between tinted and clear visors, so I am looking for a good pair of sunglasses.

Any recomendations?  Looking for good lenses and relatively small earpieces so they fit between the helmet and my face easily.

I wear Oakleys for the reasons you describe.  I also ride with a clear shield and shades on when its bright and sunny.  Not sure on the model of "O"'s I wear, but they are straight post and not too thick.

I switch visors because i couldn't find sunglasses cheaper than a good tinted visor that i thought had no light bleed on the sides of my eyes.  i thought it better to have my retinas wide open than constantly adjusting while i'm trying to concentrate on the obvious.

i have oakleys too...they only thing you want to look for when buying is not to buy those with rubber (arms??)...they will be hard to put on/off

I've got a pair of Bolle frames, with prescription polarized lenses.  They do a great job of keeping light from leaking around the edges.  Straight earpieces too, but on the expensive side (got it on the eyeglass plan, so not too bad for me)
I'm not sure if I'd recommend getting polarized lenses.  They do a good job of blocking glare, but you get all sorts of strange effects with them.  Tar lines glow, car windows have constantly changing checkerboard patterns...  I got them for kayaking and general outdoor stuff, not just for motorcycling.

I wear glasses, and you can't get perscription lenses for wrap around sunnies :(

So I have a tinted visor and a clear, but I've been caught out a couple of times at night with the tinted visor, it's not good.

The tinted visors look 100x better anyway.  :thumb:

i have dragons ( www.dragonoptical.com ) they are great quality but I just recently broke them. I sent them back to the factory and Ill let everyone know how it turns out. They should be sending me a new pair.

Make sure you don't get polarized lenses if your shield is polarized. I didn't realize my shield was polarized until after I bought a pair of Spy's. This really messes with your vision so stick to non-polarized if thats the case.

Where are you going to put your extra shield riding in changing conditions? (riding when it's getting dark)  As for wraparound, I found out what I have, Bolle Vanadiums (prescription) http://www.bolle.com/performance_eyewear/metals_vanadium.shtml
Plenty of curve to keep light from coming through.

My absolute favorite glasses for under helmet... in over 12 years of looking are these things callek optek sunglasses. Now I bought them like 10 years ago, and they were $7.95, then that company wahich evidently was doing a survey marketing type deal, quit selling them. Made me cry... until last year I found the same ones sold by alpha shades... link below.

That one was the one I ordered, they send me a different (the blue one but just as good) style, I called them many many times, and never heard back from them. Told my credit card, and they credited me.
Now these have spring loaded temples and the wrap around style as you can see but the real feeling you get when wearing them, is that they grip you head, never shift around and you know its in place. Open the face sheild and they do not let air in around the nose and hit your eyes.
My distant second choice were Bolle's in that extra thin stems and sorta like the T-2 lenses.
Cool.

before I got my tinted visor I wore a pair of uvex sunglasses.  http://www.uvexsports.com.   Oakley like styles and quality without the Oakley price.  Plus they come with a garuntee that actually works.  My first pair broke, so I called them up and they sent me a new pair, no questions asked.

How about for folks with a pin head?
I can't wear sun glasses that everyone else can wear... I own a pair of oakley's but they are the golf ones.  They stick out on the sides thus making it quite painful to wear with my helmet.  I did see that Oakley is making a womens set that looked cool.  But I have already spent $$ on the first pair.  I love having replacable lenses!!!

Another kudus to Oakley:  Last summer I got hit in the face with a hammer (yes a hammer- stuck my head where it didn't belong- caught the back swing) and the glasses took the brunt of the impact.  The lense is scratched but I ended up with no marks on me at all.  So they have proven their worth to me!  Lordy my uncle felt bad.

I had a tougher time finding sunglasses due to the fact that I needed prescription so I went with a company called Rudy Project. they have several styles that use a prescription insert and they also have several that you can have the prescription in the lenses depending on your prescription. they are pretty cool styles with a good replacement warranty. They also make several styles in a smaller frame for people with smaller faces. Another cool feature is that the arms are moldable at the ends so you can mold them to go behind your ears to fit into your helmet better if needed. Very cool feature.

Rudy project makes some nice frames and are less than Oakley.

Anything polarized.

I used to use $20 gas station type sunglassed:  oakley/bolle knock offs.

I then decided to splurge, and it AMAZING!!

Get polarized lenses.  They are worth it.

QuoteWhere are you going to put your extra shield riding in changing conditions?

Whenever I'm going out and I suspect it might be dark before I get back, I just take my clear shield and put it under my jacket....kinda wrapped around my left side. Hardly notice it's there and it doesn't really seem to move at all....or it hasn't yet anyway.  :)

I wear REVO sunglasses exclusively. I don't believe they make the style I have anymore. They have a nonslip nose piece and temples. I wear them while mountain biking as well and always stay in place. They have polycarbonate lenses and are not polarized. I tried wearing another pair of my Revo's that are polarized and was annoyed by the "rainbow" I would get from my visor, typical of all polarized glasses. This happens with tinted windows as well. I prefer to wear sunglasses instead of a tinted shield. I can lift the visor to get fresh (and cooler) air when riding slow and still have eye protection. Also, when it gets dark, it is easier to put away a small pair of glasses instead of having to change visors and carry an extra visor, that hopefully doesn't get damage while riding. But on the track I will use a tinted visor and never sunglasses.
Common sense in not very common.

anyone have any opinions or experience with wiley-x sunglasses?

I like a few of their styles and the interchangeable lenses may be useful.  Just wonder about quality and optics?

polarization is bad bad bad!!!  For motorcyclists anyway.  Ever been wearing a pair of polarized glasses at the beach?  You look out at the water and tilt your head, and at certain angles, the light dims and can even go dark completly.  This is because the polarized lense cuts out all but one phase of light.  The same thing can happen when you lean your motorcycle over.  In fact, it's actually illegal for manufacturers to sell polarized face sheilds for their helmets because of this.  Don't buy polarized lenses if you plan on using them for riding.

pantablo

I occasionally wear polarized prescription metal frame sunglasses under my clear visor without problem. It's not nearly as comfortable as going without sunglasses and relying on dark tinted visor though.
