Handlebar/Mirror Question

First off let met apologize in advance, because I know this has been discussed a thousand times. The problems is that I'm too dumb to understand the discussion. This is my first motorcycle and I don't know shaZam!, so please talk to me like a child. I have a 94 GS500.

One of my mirror mounts is broken, and I like the look of bar-ends so I thought I'd replace them.

Now after reading some threads on this, I STILL don't understand what it takes to install a set.
Because I'm so dumb I'd prefer not to do too much tinkering (drilling into the handlebars, etc).

My handlebars are also rusted, so I thought maybe replacing them with a set that could I could easily install new bar-ends is an option, but I have NO clue what to look for. I'm a new rider so I probably don't want anything too far from stock.

So I'm looking for a set of bar-ends that can easily be installed, or a good set of cheap handlebars that could fit new bar-ends.

Thank you.

Will these handlebars work? The superbike model?

The Wiki states superbike is closest to the stock bars.

BTW, I'm 6'2" with a 34 inch inseam.

Just replaced my stock bars with a set of drag bars. Also replaced the grips and went with bar-end mirrors while I was at it.

From what I can recall:

- Remove the grips. I wanted to keep my grips in tact, so I used a tip the guy at the bike shop gave me for the left grip (which is often glued): fire-up the compressor and use an air nozzle to separate the glue between the old grips and the bar. If you don't care to keep them you can just cut them off.
- Next take all the controls and the master cylinder off.
- Remove the old bars by unscrewing the 4 allen bolts.
- Had to drill 2 holes in the new bars for the plastic nubs in the controls. This is not a big deal, just measure the position of holes in the old bars from the tips and drill the new bars at the same spot.
- Reattach all the controls and the master cylinder
- Install the new grips
- Install the mirrors as per instructions, pretty easy

For the drag bars, I had to drop the forks a few millimetres, not sure if that you'd have to with the 'Superbike' bars.

2-3 hours in total, but I'm sure its much less for the more mechanically inclined folks :)

Hope that helps.

Hi Jeapordy, ditto on changing to superbike bars, I've used them on a few bikes with bar end mirrors, nice feel and good lookin' too.  I just installed bar end mirrors on the stock bars, and it is a little tricky - I should probably chuck my rusty bars as well.  I did figure out a way to do it without any drilling/cutting/filing though, if you are interested.  Congrats on your first bike too!  The gs is a great choice.  :thumb:
JohnY - I was thinking about drag bars but every bike I used them on had tank clearance issues with the forks at full lock.  They look awesome btw.  Any problems with controls/tank interference?  Can you post a pic at full lock?

JohnY

There is a bit of interference with the left hand controls at max left. Hasn't caused me any real problems though.

Those pics are awesome, just what I was looking for.  Thanks JohnY.
