took the GS on the first big solo road trip I've ridden a bike on and survived.....mostly.
covered around 2,700km's or 1,700 miles and as expected with a 2010 model bike was perfect.
My wife made a sheepskin seat cover which really helped on the long freeway sections and the Wunderlich deflector was a big help also. Also have a Venture rack plus 2 bags and throttle rocker.
fuel for the trip averaged 3.5L/100km's so fuel cost was minimal. I stopped every 3 hours or so for a break never got stiff or sore except on the return trip but that was no fault of the bike.
When I reached my destination I meet up with a mate and went dirt bike riding, had a great time but right at the end of the day hit a deep rut and flew over the bars and hurt my right wrist.
Then had to ride out of the forest at night with weak head lights, not much fun.
My wrist gave me problems on the 2nd day of the return trip so the last 500km's wasn't so great. I can say the GS500F's are definitely up to long all day rides no problem with lack of power on steep mountain climbs or maintaining speed on freeways while loaded up.
Overall had a great ride and bike was 100% already planning another trip for late November but with some one else this time.

Upload the pictures to a photo-share website like photo bucket.com or imageshack.us, then post the links here.  You can choose the size and resolution when uploading, and the links and albums make it very convenient when sharing on forums.

Also, sounds like an awesome trip!

I have my first trip planned, Chicago to St. Louis to eat at Waffle-House and see the arch.  Will be next summer with a friend of mine, provided he has a bike by then.
