Adidasguy, I'll try to remember to break out my camera next time I change the oil so you can see what I'm talking about. If by some sort of magic it comes out this time, I'll eat my words, but I very distinctly remember trying every which way to remove the filter with no avail.

V&H wont let you pull the filter - that is well known. That's cos I believe they make the same header for the EX500 too.

Gee, I didn't know that! I must be doing it all wrong by changing the oil filter WITHOUT removing the exhaust.
If everyone knows V&H won't let me do that, am I in trouble for leaving the exhaust on when I change the oil filter?
maybe someone can show me why it can't be done so I can stop changing the filter without removing the exhaust and start doing it by removing the exhaust.

There is so loose tolerances in the GS frame and engine fitmets, you may have had a loose one, he may have a tight one.
But back in the 90's they used to put in a note in the exhaust box saying so.
I had 2 in the past that had a V&H, I tried it on one I picked up in richmond and failed.
The next one I had the exhuast off cos it needed paint anyway ... didn't keep neither bike long enough to try different options.
Anyway no surprise to me you cant do with a V&H.

I'm just gonna put fresh oil in it and change it again soon to make sure all the gas is gone.
