clogged carb pilot jet even with empty carbs

Hello,

I disconnected the fuel petcock vacuum line and ran the engine until it died from lack of fuel and wouldn't start anymore.

I thought that would leave the carb bowls empty and the jets clean.

But just two weeks later the bike won't start cause fuel gets into the carbs but doesn't make it into the engine most likely due to the clogged pilot jet again.

Is there a better way to store the bike so this won't happen?  My fuel tank is in decent shape and gas is not that old and looks fine.

I'm afraid i'll keep getting this problem so in preparation i'm going to replace the carb screws with allen heads so i can clean the jets w/o pulling carbs off. Just getting tired of doing the same procedure over and over.

The bloody 20 pilots clog easier than the old 40's ... the 40's used to sit further up than the 20's do and they are larger and sat in a "well" ...

Anyway you may be getting some dirt in the fuel too ... but otherwise yes you can clog it realtively quickly ...

Buddha,  do you recommend putting an inline filter? i'm concerned the gravity fed pressure may not be enough to drive fuel thru the filter.

And do you think draining the carb bowls and running it dry of fuel has any benefit to avoid a clogged jet?
