Not sure which direction to take after crash

So I was cruising to work in some beautiful Arizona weather when I get laid out onto the street  :woohoo:

5 months and a surgery later I'm able to work on my bike. I'm not sure if it's worth the money/time, just sell as is or part it out.

Mechanically it is running fine, the carbs tend to make a "spitting" noise while warming up mostly that goes away. It has actually always done this since I bought it.. seems to just be a bit worst now but either way this isn't my main concern for being here.

Cosmetically is where I need to fix it up.

2007 GS 500F Blue/White (See picture attached)

To do this right I would need:
1. Side fairings
2. Front fairing/cowl
3. Left mirror
4. Exhaust (just scratched and dented so I could put this off)
5. Left side rear plastic (this is not too badly scratched)
6. Left side blinkers

My tank has a dent but I just planned on putting a sticker on it.

Plastics are of course outrageously priced. I briefly looked but couldn't find if there is somewhere to get just cheap plastics you could paint on your own?

If you wanted, at least until you can source the parts, you can just strip it and ride it as an E version. Sounds like most of the front stuff is the issue, so really it wouldn't be too tough to leave it naked until then. There have been guys here that have done it, maybe they have some left over bits.

Go naked. Other than color, you can look like this. It will save you a lot of money to go naked.

That's a possibility, any idea where I could pick up similar headlight, blinkers and mirrors?

adidasguy

Blinkers are OEM so buy used ones or get any blinkers. They all mount the same.
I have plenty of extra headlight mounts. Then get a standard 7" round headlight.
Mirrors are just good old ebay buys for $25 or so. The chrome SV-650 mirrors look really nice. Maybe $85 or so for a pair.

Do you have all the broken pieces of plastic, or at least most of them? You can attempt to repair the broken fairings with acetone and extra pieces of ABS plastic (google or youtube how to do this). I would attempt this first, it's not very hard just time consuming and requires a lot of patience. It's the cheapest route I think, a quart of acetone is like 6 bucks and and ABS pieces/sheets can be bought cheap... I think I even have half a sheet I could send you for free.

There's nothing wrong with going naked, but any discerning buyer would know you have an f model that got into an accident. It will hurt your resale value (don't know if you care). I repaired plastic pieces from my f model when a friend crashed mine (still a work in progress). I was actually pretty impressed with the results considering cost of replacement vs. cost of doing the repair. Anyways, just my 2 cents.

Signals would work (might have to change your flasher relay for LEDs).
That headlight doesn't have a bucket or mount for it.

You need a bucket to hold that headlight or buy a complete unit like this:

We do have extra fork mounts for a headlight in the Bike Cave if you need them. Not sure about a decent headlight bucket. You can buy complete headlights with the bucket. The fork mounts hold the headlight and front turn signals.

Honestly I don't think I have the patience to sit there and try to melt/mold the fairings back to life but that is a good idea, I really appreciate your offer on the ABS sheet but I'm thinking of going the naked route.

Ok cool. I think I'll look for non-LED signals in case you do need to change the relay... I have no problems with the stock ones. So if I bought a headlight with a bucket like the one you linked I would need the fork mount and the headlight mount, correct?

LED compatible turn signal relays are less than $10 and a direct swap.

A set of these in the bottom picture.
I have extras if you need some.
Then the front would look similar to this.

Ah ok cool maybe I'll grab those then. Would you guys recommend them over stock?

Ok cool I'll PM you about grabing a set!  :thumb:

I haven't heard anyone ask.  Have you check to make sure the frame isn't bent?  If the frame is toast, then parting out is the way to go.  Otherwise, I really like the look of the naked version.  That's the route to go.

They'll work with incandescent or LED turn signals and flash at the same rate regardless of load; so if someone wanted to put on OEM turn signals the flasher could remain the same ;)
The only "advantage" of the stock flasher is that when used with the stock turn signals it'll flash faster when a bulb is burned out.

adidasguy, I saw this headlight + bucket on another topic. This would work with the bracket you just shipped out, right?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQUUYV4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

adidasguy

While 7" is better, that one will work.
You may have to reverse the aluminum bracket. They have an outward bend so swap left for right for a smaller headlight.
They were picked up today (Post office did business pick-ups today!)

That should be fine. Ermgo makes lots of motorcycle parts.

I picked up these mirrors after my crash, tried to throw them on tonight and they don't fit. The ad said they fit an 07 gs 500f though. Hmmm... Any ideas?

Your handlebar mirror mounts are the same as all GS500's so you should be OK.

Pictures?

How did they not fit?
