'04 on would do. However, all motors would work if that's what you need. Just swap the timing rotor and you're good to go for 04+ with an 89-02 motor.

maxkart

4-pin connector is the same in the old and the new model?

adidasguy

Yes. New model doesn't use 1 wire of the 4.
You swap your timing rotor with your new one if an older bike and you're fine. You can swap the timing pickup if you want.
Other than the presence of a mechanical tach connector (which can be plugged), the motors are the same. really. Parts the same. We swap parts between motors all the time without thinking other than making sure the head has the mechanical tach gear if it is an olde rbike that has a mechanical tach.

I was looking at mine and the 4-wire connections would

1) positive cylinder sensor "1" (brown wire)
2) negative cylinder sensor "1 and 2" (black wire with the white line)
3) positive cylinder sensor "2" (green wire with white line)
4) positive oil pressure sensor (green wire yellow line)

In the case of the new model the connector should "miss" is the positive cylinder "2" is correct?

What is it that you are really needing or wanting to do?

Do you have a 2004+ bike that needs a new motor or do you have a 1989-2002 bike and want to put a 2004+ motor into it?

If you are wanting to replace a 2004+ motor, and you were to get an older motor, you can easily remove the timing rotor and pick-up from your motor and put them into an older motor.

adidasguy

OK.now that I re-read your posting you want to buy just the pick-up thingy for a 2004+ motor?

If so, what I mentioned still is OK. Any will work. You can remove the extra one on a 2 pickup unit.

I'll have someone check the Bike Cave. There should be some, probably dual pick ups.
