1989 to 199? REPLACEMENT CAMSHAFT

Does anyone know where I can get new OEM or replacement intake and exhaust camshafts for my 1990 GS500..??

If you want brand new OEM, Suzuki's always there for you... Used I'd go to the online auction centre
Or you could get performance cams from Megacycles, but I don't have any experience with them, so ask someone that races his GS about them.

I wonder, too. I haven't seen any ever go bad.
Maybe you are talking about valve clearances are really need to change shims?

well, if you have run the engine long enough in miles or hard/hot enough causeing premature wear and you cant get clearences from the thinest service recomended shim, its time to take a look at the valve and valve seat.     if otherwise in spec, one could always have the base circle of the lobes re ground

are ye lookin fer abit more rubs outa ye ole bumpstick. regrinding could also be the answer, but fair bit a homework be yer future.

The bike has over 55,000 kms... and I'm getting ready for a complete rebuild and more power.
An aftermarket cam would be nice... What do the racers use..??

I don't know... I've gone back and forth on the idea and it just seems like a can of worms for minimal gain. Realistically, what are you going to get HP-wise? 3-4 more horses? 42-43 at the wheel then? Yup, still slow.

55k kilometers = about 35k miles, that's hardly more than broken in.  Hard to imagine the cams are worn much at all.  I put 80k miles on my 97 GS and 100k miles on my 02 GS and the same intake valve shims went all the way, no cam wear at all.  My exhaust valves needed smaller shims only to compensate for valve/seat wear, cam wear would require larger shims to reduce gaps.

A good job with intake, exhaust, and jetting mods will give you about a 10% power increase and extend the power curve closer to redline without taking a dive like the stock engine does just past the 8500 rpm peak.
