Odd question about a turn signal mod that turns them on constantly...

Not sure if anyone has ever done, or even thought to do this.   I've been thinking safety recently and I do a ton of riding at night (at least half of my riding is done before sunup).  To provide more than one point of light as a reference, has anyone converted their turn signals to Daytime Running lights, that merely blink then you activate the signals?   

This helps especially at night to immediately let cars/anyone know from a distance that you're on a bike, and not just a car with a burned out headlight.   It's great for letting other folks just distance as well. 

Let me know!  I'm staring blankly at the Haynes wiring diagram as well...

and check with your state law-makers about the rules on it for your area .. some places get all pissy about having orange indicators lit up at all EXCEPT as original designed function

Funny coincidence, I'm staring at the diagram right now as well.

My thoughts on your situation -- just reverse the signal to your signals. EX: if the signal would normally be off, it turns on. If the signal would normally be on, it turns off. That way they're normally on, and when the flasher relay tries to turn them 'on' they flip off instead. I imagine that could be done with a pair of relays, not sure if you'd need an electronic flasher or not since you'd only be driving the relay coils and not bulbs.

have had a mate try the reverse flasher relay thing with a car .. he was gonna be 'cooler than school' with his reverse setup .. but the way he rigged it it just meant the relay was energised more and overheated and burnt out .. so modifying 'standard' is problematic .. remember seeing in movies though... older USA cars with blinking tail lights/indicators... obtain and use their wiring map maybe?

other situ i can think of in the bike blinker lenses... they are small and plastic ... how much heat is the bulb gonna put out being on all the time? .. LED units could work though? ..

im not trying to poohpooh anyones thinking... just trying to look ahead a little for possible issues?

To be honest, I think the simplest way would be to buy a set of dual filament turn signals, or a set of running lights.

Otherwise you're looking at 2 relays and possibly an electronic flasher unit, and a good bit extra soldering.

You can get some 1157 base LEDs that are white on one "filament" and amber on the other; replace the turn signal with a dual-filament base and clear/smoke lens and one of those dual-color LEDs then simply wire the white "filament" to the running lights and the amber to your turn signals.

I think it's legal to have your front blinkers lit orange, as running lights. Rear blinkers no, they can only blink. My Honda has stock lights and that's how they work. My GS blinkers only blink.
