Hello guys! Finally got around to starting this thread, all this winter weather has us out of work so I got a lot of free time on my hands.

Anyways, I guess I'll start with how I got the bike and what I've done to it so far!

A picture of my baby

She is a 1995 GS500E with 16k miles on it that I got for $800. Before I bought this bike I had a '96 Toyota Tercel I bought as my first car, but I eventually broke a connecting rod and spun a bearing in the motor due to neglecting to put oil in it :'[ Stupid, yes, but will never happen again! I sold it to a buddy for 300$ flat.
Also I had a '94 Volkswagen Cabrio I bought for 700$, turned out the frame was badly bent so I scrapped it as well. Took the money from the two cars and drove 2 hours away to pick up my GS!

When I first rode it I noticed it had a hard time starting and when I got it running it sputtered a lot on the take off but got progressively better.

So what I have done to it so far is a Valve Adjustment, brand new Brisk Racing plugs, cleaned the carbs, and it seemed to have fixed those problems.

Anyways, long story short, tax time is right around the corner, and I decided I'm going to make my bike exactly the way I want it (With your guys's help of course!)

A few weeks ago me and some friends got the bike in a shed and spent about 3 1/2 hours completely dismantling it to the frame and bagging every bolt, nut, and assembly.

Pictures of how it sits now

That was a very fun process getting it apart with my buddies! Hopefully getting it back together will be fairly easy!

So my plans for this build are as follows:

New front tire
R1 Tail Swap (Modified subframe)
Gs500f HID Retrofit headlight
Rejet
Front Sprocket change
New colored chain
New grips, bar ends, cables, mirrors, levers, etc.
Integrated Tail Light
Sandblast and powdercoat frame and other misc. parts
New pegs
SV650 Rear Shock
Front fork swap (maybe)
And anything else I come to think of along the way!

The bike already has a K&N Lunchbox and Yoshi slipon (Hence the rejet)

But before I Jump into this build I need your guys help with a few things!

For modifying the subframe I will be using the user here mjj4's thread: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=64179.0 for references and pictures.

My first question is what are the differences between the '07 frames and my '95 frame, if any?
Like, based on mjj4s' thread, will there be anything to stop me from doing this because of my '95 frame?

The second question I have is about sprocket size. If I go to a 15 tooth front sprocket, do I need a bigger chain?

And the last one is, is there a specific year R1 tail I should get?

I guess that's it for now. I am waiting for my tax return to get back to me and as soon as it does I will be ordering parts and start updating this thread weekly if not daily, with loads of pictures. I hope to learn a lot with this build and make a lot of friends along the way, and as always, any help, advice, insight, or recommendations are always accepted! Thank you guys for reading!

R1 tail light - I think the pre LED kind it all that will fit/look 1/2 way decent ... 01 or earlier ... maybe 00 or earlier.

Now you could have just ridden the bike and not turn it into a sad pile of parts ... you could always have got another bike to do this to.

Cool.

Just a small update for you guys!

I have ordered quite a bit of parts ranging from levers to r6 rear shock (I know I said sv650 bit it's okay) and should arrive by next week. Also, I believe I will hold off for quite a while on the r1 tail swap. The weather is getting warmer and warmer and I really just want to get behind th handle bars and drive! None the less I will update this thread probably next weekend with all the parts and goodies I ordered! Thanks for following my build!
