Hi adidasguy, I appreciate your help as always.
I shorted the battery to the bulb (per my GS500 handbook's instructions) and it lit up real bright.
It's a 2004 GS500.

This is my first bike, could you explain the right hand control plug to me?

Ever hear of a voltage drop test, or a ground short test.....

Voltage drop test you bascily hook your meter up to the "12v line for the light and further up the line you connect your other lead if you get 0v that you know your break if further.

Headlight goes off when starter button is pressed and goes back on when starter button is released whether engine starts or not, starter relay does this.

The headlight cut off on the starter button started in 2006.
The starter relay does not do it.....................................

Finally got over to the garage to free little Suzi from the ice she was frozen into for the past month.  She's free and parked high and dry in the front of the garage just waiting to go if and when mother nature is ready.

Checked the headlight while there and much to my amazement you were right.  Headlight dims a bit while cranking but doesn't go out!  All the 4 early to mid 80's Hondas I had before the GSs had that feature, no wonder the GSs were harder to start in the winter.  And I blamed it on the EPA.   :nono:  Looking for a lighter bike as the years catch up to me that new CBR250R is looking better all the time.  Suzuki's new 250 is as heavy as the GS500.   :dunno_black:
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Alrighty, so I think I narrowed it down to a mechanical problem in the right hand control.
I'm working on replacing that now. Is there a way to loosen those small metal pins so I can easily slip them in?
