I am a 6"2' 140 kg rider and my riding experience consists of the 8 hours I spent on a CB125 during my lams qride course.

I am set on a  GS500. as these models are o run out in Australia the are very cheap at the moment, I am tossing up between naked or fairings,  I kinda like the fairings however I read somewhere that for tall riders the wind can come up over the wind sheild and hit your helmet so you end up with a lot of buffering on the top of your helmet, have any tall gs500f riders experienced this?

I'm only a few inches shorter bro... And was about same weight.... Buffeting not too bad really ... But I recently put on a Zero Gravity -Touring screen and it did make a positive difference....

Apart from that ... Katana rear shock, sonic .95 or 1.0 front springs, one of the thicker alloy fork braces from the guys on here ... You'll love it!  :woohoo:

I'm 6' 0....yes wind hits your helmet...no I never experienced buffeting...full face helmet...

I would imagine with a naked, non faired bike, the wind would also hit your helmet, and your chest...so go with faired bike (IMHO)

If the GS500 is now reduced price due to discontinue....this is the time to buy....

I did this in USA...2010..they were selling last model 2009...cheap....I bought....its 40,000 miles later....happy as a clam....deal of the century!

Im 6ft 1 on a naked gs . I have 12 years riding experience including owning a bandit 600 and a cbr1000r. My first big bike was a kawasaki er5 and looking back im glad it was naked. In 2 years i got knocked off (drivers fault) . I had it reversed into while i was in a shop (car driver disapeared leaving the bike on its side) and i had a slow speed low side on icy roads. . . If it was fully faired it would have been wrecked. So i guess what im saying is a naked is best for inexperienced riders such as yourself. Id recomend the gs over the er5 but just use and absuse it for a few years to get your road craft up  :thumb:

6ft4" here 125kg and my GS feels great. I would love a set of gimbles to compliment the clip ons to give my legs a more natural feel as at the moment they are a little to upright for my liking. Bike is plent quick for me for a learner and since I put the 15front sprocket it gets up quick enough.
