Hello from San Antonio Texas. New to this forum but not new to forums. I'm also currently a member of KZ650.info where I did a complete frame up café build on a 79 KZ650.
Before

After

Ok, so the reason I'm here is my brother got this GS500 after seeing all the fun I'm having (getting to see the frustrating part as well  :icon_lol:) Bike looks complete but a little rough. Not as rough as mine when I got it home. I've already picked up a set of Carbs, throttle assembly and controls, and carb boots. Found the very complicated petcock diagram (Over Kill) and a wiring diagram. I'm a little handy and can figure most things out but am very thankful these forums for answering questions. And at the moment I have a couple to start with. 1st order of business is to get it running and we'll tackle the creative part later. 1 is where exactly does the CDI/Igniter mount? Oh and thank God for numbered harness! Looks like possibly left side but can't seem to find a spot where upper and lower bolt holes line up. 2 is the starter solenoid ground is not there but there were 2 black wires on the negative battery post. One labeled #7 with a 3 pronged connector numbered the same and another black wire that is not numbered so I'm thinking that may be it. I'm wanting to basically funnel and hose directly to carbs just to see if she'll run so I am also assuming there's a vacuum port on the carbs so maybe you can give me some insight there as well. I will be taking lots of pics as we progress unless it won't run. In that case he'll get rid of it not wanting to dump a bunch of money into like I did on mine. Also one thing I noticed that there's a sideways slide that I'm thinking is the choke and it's not moving. I have a half set that came with the bike and they don't move either. Am I missing something there? Thanks in advance for any help.

Color scheme will definitely be changed. Preliminary thought is to do a mild street fighter thing with small fairing/screen, mini or smaller digital clocks (may go stock if a nice set can be had), rear fender delete, clip on's, and toying with the idea of possibly a different seat configuration. I'm also considering modifying the side covers. By the way we're old farts in our 50's. Wives' laugh saying we're crazy old kids! They're right :woohoo:

Thanx, I think it does. Is #7 black ground to the battery and the other to starter solonoid?

Thanx GSJack. Any info on starter solinoid black wire connection?

Never went into much of the wiring myself, I've had very little electrical trouble with my GSs in my 15 years and 180k miles of riding them.  Hooked up a jumper backwards recently and blew the fuse and had to search to find it.   :icon_lol:  Someone should be along to go into the wiring soon.

Pics don't do it justice. Quality is not there but its my brothers bike and he doesn't like it. That's down the road. 1st I have to get it running. Then we'll see what his vision is.
