I am doing my Dual Sport Build Project Bike over in the build section of this forum, and 1st wanted to give credit to whomever did this build and second, wanted to ask them a few questions.  No doubt after studying their pics, they could have saved me a bit of money.

IF THIS IS YOUR BIKE PLEASE CONNECT WITH ME OVER IN THE "2014 GS500 DUAL SPORT BUILD THREAD."

or just hit me up here... whatever.

Thanks.

Can't say I've seen this particular build before, but that is a nice DS build!  Looks pretty simple too...

One thing peculiar thing though - The forks - I can't quite tell if there is a brace or not... that area by the front fender looks like it may be just a bracket for the fog lights  :dunno_black:  Either way, it doesn't seem like it is enough, unless I'm missing something  :dunno_black:

I also wonder what was done on the rear suspension - seems like a longer shock of some kind must be in there - maybe an SV650 shock?  :dunno_black:

Could use a new brake lever  :icon_lol: its just a snapshot in time though, looks like clutch lever had already been replaced -  but then maybe some guards on the levers for protecting those a little, and for some wind protection in cold like that.

Liking the simple skid plate.

Thanks Bboy.

About the fork brace or what seems to be a lack there of,  I think theses fork tubes may be a bit weak to not have support down low near the wheel: Talk me down...???

I have a ton of pic of this build, and this guy did a lot of cool stuff, like the saddle bag braces are custom to the shape of the GI Army bags and they were made from old stainless steel street signs!!

I think he used a late model "white" SV650 Shock IBK...

I like how simple this bike looks. The one part that I like for sure is the belly pan... all stainless and a pretty good idea.

Hopefully he will come forward! I'm ANCIOUS AS HECK!!!

Not sure if you've seen my build yet, and it's alittle more street oriented than full on dual sport, but take a look! :)

Wow!!!

Your conversion is by far the most comprehensive that I've seen.  That things is so nice I don't thing I'd live thru dropping it, especially after all that work.  Thanks for giving me the link!!  I hope you don't mind if I pick a few ideas of yours here and there?  I truly will NOT be going that far with my build as I just want to build something I can bang around, hose down with WD40 and leave out in the rain, and just downright not worry about. All that while have some fun with it when I run off the pavement and onto the gravel back roads. However, the SV650 forks, optioned earlier, may have been a possibility for me on this build... I had access to a set. Oh well, that's the fun of it; maybe on the next build.

Now I just picked up a GSXR 750 that I would love to do that tail bob mod to.  This thing is a Power Comandered Beast, and I ride a Busa!  I just hate how tall the tail sticks up in the air, it's an 04 GSXR.  But that's a whole other post on a whole other forum... lol

Thanks again. I'll be in touch if you don't mind my asking you a few questions along the way....

Actually I have not rode with them yet, but they are very popular and are on almost every European conversion that I have viewed.  What do you mean "your oem ones?"  I didn't know there were such a thing as OEM crash bars...

Don't mind at all :)

Looking over your build again - Why Trackside Handlebars?

I've been gong over your build again reading this time0

What do you find different about the Trackside Handle Bars as opposed to the OEM bars...

Another thing, I'm in need of some machine work, just a long shot but maybe you could help with locating someone to do this. Read this reply to another Twinner, go down to the photos of the spacers and you'll see what I need:

Thanks again for the super utilitarian GS500 build post!!!

The Trackside bars were the cheapest option for the dirt bend I was looking for.  The are a CR High bend. The feel great. Plenty of pullback, tons of leverage, etc.
