So I am a chick. My husband has a black R1- and riding on the back, my pink gear looked hot with his black bike. I just bought an 05 gs500f- Blue. Its my first bike. Being a girl- I like to match, and think I will look like a total dork with a pink jacket and helmet on a blue bike. My husband says it doesn't matter, at least im riding. Opinions greatly appreciated, as I don't want to look like a total idiot!

I wouldn't worry about looking like a dork on a bike...  that's impossible.  Only time you could remotely resemble a dork is if you were in full race suit on a moped - I doubt colors would matter with that case... But even then, you'd still be on two wheels, and that automatically puts your cool factor on another level, way beyond the 95% of other vehicles on the road... add the fact you are a chick - well it doesn't matter what you wear, you are a chick on a bike, period. = about the highest on the cool factor I'm aware of...

Side note:  The only cage that could trump a bike in cool factor is a 1970 Gremlin  :icon_rolleyes:  :icon_lol:

On a little more serious note - you could add stickers to your bike that bring together your gear and the bike - plenty of pink and blue combinations out there.  If you don't mind logo type stickers, I've seen pink and blue colored Monster, Rockstar, and Tapout brands that would probably tie in your colors well... or there or tons of stickers you can buy for bikes that are any different design, just choose the colors and search around...

don't worry about dorkness. pink on blue would work if your talking about colors complimenting. if you want to go matching, then go for it. what works for you is all that matters. Btw welcome to the board.  ive had multiple gs' myself. enjoy the things lol a '70 gremlin, sure. also an amx ;) ( neighbor has one in red )

I have mismatching colors.  I don't care.  I like my blue helmet.

That reminds me - contrasting colors definitely help with visibility.  There is a guy who rides lives in my neighbourhood who has all white bikes - zxr12, dr650, and a bunch others and they are all white.  His bright blue helmet really sticks out, and you can always see him coming.

While riding, you should really just be concerned with people seeing you, not whether they are judging you for matching.  Your life is on the line if they can't see you.

I wear one of these when I ride...and my bike is not painted hi-vis yellow :).

Thanks to everyone that replied. I hopped on my bike yesterday, really for the first time since just walking with it in 1st gear (im still learning, and its still cold out). And after just riding for a little bit of time, I no longer care what I look like with my pink gear. I like it, it keeps me safe, and warm, and I LOVE riding. Its mine, its me,  I like it, and that's all that matters. Thank You all for your opinions!

I was scared out of my mind, especially after dropping my husbands R1 limited edition... ooops. But my bike is much more female friendly, and after some encouragement from my husband- Im now able to ride on the highway, and other roads just fine. I still get nervous once in a while. But I talk myself through it. And I do just fine. For me, believing in myself was half the battle. The bike wants to naturally stay upright, so my fear of tipping over is gone now. I just take it slow for now, I don't push myself beyond my abilities. And I feel like I get better every time I ride. Its totally worth being scared, and learning and teaching yourself how to get over it. Give your wives and girlfriends encouragement, let them be scared, but push them through it a little. If they're anything like me- they will thank you in the end!
